Senate Resolution No. 1277

        MOURNING   the   death  of  Stephen  J.  Sullivan,
        distinguished citizen, public servant,  and  devoted
        member of his community
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens  of  the  State  of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Stephen J. Sullivan died on Tuesday, July 1, 2025,  at  the
age of 83; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born to David and Agnes Sullivan on October 9, 1941, in the
City  of  New York, Stephen J. Sullivan began his educational journey at
Dewitt  Clinton  High  School,  where  he  learned  the  importance   of
dedication and discipline; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Following  his high school graduation, Stephen J. Sullivan
made the commitment to serve his community as a police  officer  at  the
New York City Police Department; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Stephen  J.  Sullivan was known for his remarkable courage
and integrity at the New York City Police Department; throughout his  25
years of service, he made an undeniable impact on those he protected and
served; and
 
  WHEREAS,  After  retiring  from the New York City Police Department,
Stephen J. Sullivan was determined to stay active and  involved  in  his
community,  which  led  him  to  work  at  Putnam  Transit  for 23 years
following his initial retirement; and
 
  WHEREAS, Stephen J. Sullivan's commitment  to  excellence,  and  his
spirit  of  humanity,  carried  over  into  all  fields  of  enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
 
  WHEREAS, At the center of Stephen J. Sullivan's life was his family,
and many of his most cherished moments were spent with his beloved wife,
Maureen (Mitchell) Sullivan; and
 
  WHEREAS, Together, Stephen J. Sullivan and his wife, Maureen, shared
the joy of raising their two children,  Christine  Pozzuto  and  Stephen
Sullivan; and
 
  WHEREAS, Stephen J. Sullivan's most joyous experience was serving as
a  grandfather  to  Lucas,  Julia,  Mark,  Aidan,  and Jason; Stephen J.
Sullivan  reveled  in  their   accomplishments   and   imbued   in   his
grandchildren the important values of honor and service; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Stephen J. Sullivan's unwavering commitment to his family,
career, and community leaves a legacy as profound as his loving  spirit,
and  his  memory  will be carried by all who had the pleasure of knowing
him; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  death  of Stephen J. Sullivan, distinguished citizen, public
servant, and devoted member of his community; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Stephen J. Sullivan.
