CONGRATULATING the Adirondack Sky Center and
Observatory upon the occasion of winning an Emmy
Award for its participation in NASA's 2024 solar
eclipse live broadcast
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to those organizations whose commitment and creative talents
have contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of their
community, the State of New York, the Nation, and the world; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory upon the occasion
of winning an Emmy Award for its participation in NASA's 2024 solar
eclipse live broadcast; and
WHEREAS, During the 2024 total solar eclipse, NASA executed a
complex live program that required close collaboration with several
locations along the line of totality, including the Adirondack Sky
Center; and
WHEREAS, NASA's program, titled "2024 Total Solar Eclipse: Through
the Eyes of NASA," won the News and Documentary Emmy for Outstanding
Live News Special, a prestigious award in television programming; and
WHEREAS, The live coverage program has gathered nearly 40 million
live and replay views across NASA distribution channels, and the
broadcast was picked up in 2,208 hits on 568 channels in 25 countries,
making this broadcast internationally known and respected; and
WHEREAS, As part of this NASA program, the Adirondack Sky Center
utilized its high-powered telescopes and specialized software to provide
a live view of the eclipse as it occurred over Tupper Lake, New York;
and
WHEREAS, In tandem with providing live coverage for this broadcast,
the Adirondack Sky Center simultaneously hosted an event titled
"Totality in Tupper," which gathered over 15,000 people in Tupper Lake,
New York, to witness this historical event; and
WHEREAS, Adirondack Sky Center Board President Seth McGowan was
responsible for leading the totality event and working directly with
NASA and other stakeholders to ensure the live coverage was executed
flawlessly; and
WHEREAS, While the Emmy Award is in Seth McGowan's name, he has made
it clear that the credit should go to the entire Adirondack Sky Center's
board, staff, and volunteers for their efforts; and
WHEREAS, The hard work of all the individuals involved in executing
the NASA live broadcast at the Adirondack Sky Center has allowed
individuals from around the world to experience the historical 2024
total solar eclipse from the viewpoint of Tupper Lake, New York, and
their efforts should be recognized; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory upon the occasion
of winning an Emmy Award for its participation in NASA's 2024 solar
eclipse live broadcast; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory.
