COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary
Club of Plattsburgh, New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate significant milestones of organizations that contribute to the
well-being of their communities and make a lasting impact on society;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh, New
York, to be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2026, a momentous occasion
for this exemplary organization; and
WHEREAS, First chartered on April 1, 1926, with 20 outstanding
members of the Plattsburgh community, the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh has
lent its members' time, talent, and financial support to a wide variety
of local, national and international charitable works and projects,
benefitting many North Country citizens and people around the world; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding in Chicago more than 120 years ago,
Rotary International has grown to be a global network of 1.2 million
neighbors, friends, and leaders, in over 46,000 clubs around the world
connecting passionate people with a commitment to service with diverse
perspectives that exchange ideas, forge lifelong friendships, and, above
all, take action to change the world through its motto of "Service Above
Self"; and
WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh has raised hundreds of
thousands of dollars over the last century and continues to develop
local fundraising events which support local community projects such as
the renovation of the Strand Theatre, commemoration of the Battle of
Plattsburgh activities, construction of the Rotary Centennial Park in
Plattsburgh, and the upcoming relocation of the Plattsburgh YMCA to the
former Plattsburgh Air Force Base; and
WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh has promoted education by
providing continued substantial and meaningful contributions to local
high school academic programs and to local colleges, supporting
scholarships opportunities for students seeking improve their lives
through academic success; and
WHEREAS, Continuing to promote global health initiatives, the Rotary
Club of Plattsburgh supports programs such as PolioPlus - Rotary's
on-going commitment to eradicate polio; it has also financially
supported the construction of over 200 latrines for the residents of
Nicaragua; and
WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh sponsored, and initially
supported, the establishment of other nearby Rotary Clubs including the
AuSable Valley Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh Sunrise;
and
WHEREAS, Looking toward its future, the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh,
which has grown to more than 125 members, will celebrate its 100th
Anniversary on Saturday, March 14, 2026; and
WHEREAS, For over a century, the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh has
remained a steadfast pillar of service, leadership, and fellowship in
Northern New York and continues to embody the Rotary motto of "Service
Above Self"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh, New
York, and to commend its members for their remarkable service to their
community and the greater good; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh.
