        COMMEMORATING   the   60th   Anniversary  of  SUNY
        Polytechnic Institute
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize  and
honor  those  commemorative historical events which symbolize the growth
and development of  the  educational  institutions  which  comprise  the
communities of this great State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of SUNY Polytechnic Institute; and
 
  WHEREAS,  SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) is New York State's
premier public polytechnic school;  located  in  Utica,  New  York,  the
university  boasts  a  vibrant  and  inclusive community where students,
faculty,  and  staff  are  empowered  through  a  forward-looking  STEAM
education and dynamic campus experience; and
 
  WHEREAS,  SUNY  Polytechnic  Institute  was founded in 1966 as Upper
Division College  at  Utica/Herkimer/Rome  and  has  proudly  grown  and
adapted  to  meet the ever-evolving needs of students, industry, and the
region, while staying rooted in hands-on learning, workforce  readiness,
athletics, and community impact; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Over  the  course  of  its  six  decades, SUNY Polytechnic
Institute has expanded its academic programs  and  physical  footprint-a
direct  outcome  of  continued  investment in facilities that strengthen
student experiences; in the 1980s, the Marcy  campus  was  developed  to
meet such student and faculty needs and to remain a competitive force in
the field of higher education; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In 2014, SUNY Polytechnic Institute was officially formed,
reflecting a  bold  step  forward  in  strengthening  its  academic  and
innovation   mission;   today,   the   university   now  operates  as  a
single-campus  institution  in  Utica,  which  is  comprised   of   four
colleges-Arts    &   Sciences,   Business,   Engineering,   and   Health
Sciences-serving  approximately   3,000   undergraduate   and   graduate
students; and
 
  WHEREAS, As a polytechnic institution, SUNY Poly offers a robust mix
of  professional,  technical,  and  liberal  arts  programs that combine
theory with  practice,  delivering  hands-on  experiences  that  prepare
students to be workforce-ready on day one; and
 
  WHEREAS,  SUNY Polytechnic Institute's recent milestones include the
creation of 14 research centers; celebration of  SUNY  Poly's  inaugural
Wolfspeed Endowed Chairs, supporting academic excellence and innovation;
formation  of  collaborative  agreements  with  Griffiss  Institute  and
Assured Information Security (AIS);  establishment  of  the  MV  Biotech
Collective with the Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) and Mohawk
Valley  Health  System  (MVHS);  and  the  launch of the NYSTEC Business
Center of Excellence, further advancing  engagement  with  industry  and
regional economic development; and
 
 
  WHEREAS,    SUNY    Polytechnic   Institute,   a   progressive   and
community-minded institution, has expanded its grades K-12 outreach  and
has strengthened industry partnerships that support talent pipelines and
applied  research,  truly  ensuring  the  development and success of the
talented youth of our great State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Steeped  in  a  proud  and  distinguished  history,   SUNY
Polytechnic   Institute  may  look  back  with  pride  upon  its  humble
beginnings, find just satisfaction in its  purposeful  growth  and  hold
true  of  purpose  in its commitment to serving the educational needs of
the citizens of New York and beyond; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  60th Anniversary of SUNY Polytechnic Institute; and be
it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
