HONORING Dr. Bill Tinglin upon the occasion of
receiving the Global Impact Icon Award in Education
& Humanitarianism from the Young, Gifted, & Black
Entrepreneurial Awards
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals whose lives and work exemplify excellence, service,
and global leadership and whose contributions uplift communities,
advance education, and promote humanitarian values across cultures and
borders; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dr. Bill Tinglin, an internationally respected educator, humanitarian,
and social impact innovator, upon the occasion of receiving the Global
Impact Icon Award in Education & Humanitarianism from the Young, Gifted,
& Black Entrepreneurial Awards on Wednesday, February 25, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2006 by founder Carl Gray, the Young,
Gifted, & Black (YGB) Entrepreneurial Awards is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to recognizing and celebrating distinguished individuals of
color, whose leadership, perseverance, and service have made meaningful
and lasting contributions across business, education, technology,
healthcare, philanthropy, and community development, while uplifting
unsung heroes and heroines whose impact often goes unrecognized; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bill Tinglin is a visionary leader in education and
media, whose pioneering work has transformed learning environments and
expanded access to ethical, interdisciplinary, and culturally responsive
education, most notably through his founding of School News Nationwide
(SNN) in 1993 which revolutionized educational engagement by integrating
technology, journalism, and media within New York City's public schools
and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Through his educational leadership, Dr. Bill Tinglin has
empowered educators and inspired countless students to pursue meaningful
careers in education, law enforcement, social services, public
leadership, and entrepreneurship, instilling in them a strong sense of
civic responsibility, integrity, and purpose; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, in furtherance of dialogue, tolerance, and
historical understanding, Dr. Bill Tinglin founded Words of Bonds, an
initiative dedicated to bridging African-American and Jewish communities
through powerful storytelling and interviews with Holocaust survivors
and Black elders, fostering unity, empathy, and shared historical
awareness; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bill Tinglin is also the creator of the groundbreaking
Tour for Tolerance, an innovative mobile learning initiative that
transforms school buses into immersive, high-tech classrooms which
utilize artificial intelligence, holograms, and interactive media and
reach more than 70,000 students annually, promoting inclusion, moral
integrity, and respect for diversity; and
WHEREAS, A committed global humanitarian, Dr. Bill Tinglin has
served as a Goodwill Ambassador to Ukraine and Jamaica, advocating for
education, humanitarian relief, and sustainable development, and has
amplified the voices of Ukrainian refugee women through his leadership
and engagement at the United Nations; and
WHEREAS, As President and Chief Executive Officer of the German
Jamaican Museum and through partnerships with international
organizations, including the United Nations, the Moses West Foundation,
and global governmental and nonprofit institutions, Dr. Bill Tinglin has
advanced sustainability, ethical education, cultural preservation,
Indigenous rights, and humanitarian aid across multiple continents; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bill Tinglin's extraordinary global reach, which
includes impactful work across Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle
East, and Asia, reflects a steadfast commitment to human dignity,
cross-cultural understanding, and the transformative power of education
and service; and
WHEREAS, The Global Impact Icon Award in Education &
Humanitarianism, bestowed by the Young, Gifted, & Black Entrepreneurial
Awards, fittingly recognizes Dr. Bill Tinglin's lifelong dedication to
empowering communities, fostering tolerance, and creating pathways of
opportunity for future generations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Bill Tinglin, upon the occasion of receiving the Global Impact
Icon Award in Education & Humanitarianism, and to commend him for his
visionary leadership, humanitarian service, and profound global impact;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Bill Tinglin as an expression of the highest esteem
and appreciation for his continued commitment to excellence,
recognition, and community uplift.
