HONORING Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon upon the
occasion of her designation as New Yorker of the
Week by Spectrum News NY1
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those outstanding individuals whose commitment, dedication, and
service contribute significantly to the vitality and well-being of the
communities of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon upon the occasion of her designation as New
Yorker of the Week by Spectrum News NY1 on Monday, January 26, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon is a resident of West Brighton, a
neighborhood in Staten Island, New York, and she helps stock and
maintain a Little Free Library along the North Shore Esplanade; and
WHEREAS, Little Free Libraries are small boxes scattered throughout
communities where people can take or leave a book of their choosing with
no membership, card, or payment necessary; to Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon,
these boxes are a way to foster community connection while encouraging
reading in her neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon has spent over a decade tending to
dozens of Little Free Libraries throughout Staten Island, New York,
although three of her favorite locations are along the North Shore, due
in part to their scenic location which allows passersby to enjoy water
views while exploring new books; and
WHEREAS, An avid reader and passionate lover of literature, Veronica
"Ronnie" Gambon comes from a family that values books, and she dedicated
her professional career to working in operations in publishing and news;
and
WHEREAS, The skills that Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon has developed
throughout her lifetime assist her in her community work, and she has
made it her mission to breathe new life into areas that she feels are
often overlooked; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her great work with Little Free Libraries
throughout Staten Island, New York, Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon works in
groups to help organize chess tournaments, Veterans Day commemorations,
neighborhood cleanups, and voter registration efforts; she has also been
a vital part of launching an initiative to bring resources and improved
lighting to a nearby commercial corridor; and
WHEREAS, Spectrum News NY1's recognition of Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon
as New Yorker of the Week is a fitting tribute to an individual whose
commitment to service and love of her neighborhood has strengthened the
Staten Island community and enriched the lives of countless individuals
and families; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon upon the occasion of her designation as
New Yorker of the Week by Spectrum News NY1 on January 26, 2026; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted
to Veronica "Ronnie" Gambon.
