COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the
Westchester Jewish Council
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished organizations whose dedication and service
have strengthened the civic, cultural, and moral fabric of the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Westchester Jewish Council proudly celebrated its 50th
Anniversary in 2025, marking five decades of exemplary leadership,
advocacy, and service to the Jewish community of Westchester County and
the broader community at large; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1975 as the Westchester Jewish Conference, the
Westchester Jewish Council is an independent not-for-profit organization
that has grown to become the central communicating, coordinating,
convening, advisory, and resource organization for Jewish life in
Westchester County; and
WHEREAS, The Westchester Jewish Council works closely with its 126
member organizations, which collectively serve the Jewish community of
Westchester County-the eighth largest Jewish community in the United
States, with nearly 130,000 Jewish residents; and
WHEREAS, Through its mission-driven work, the Westchester Jewish
Council connects, convenes, and safeguards Westchester's Jewish
communities, while encouraging participation in Jewish life and
responding to both existing and emerging communal needs; and
WHEREAS, The Westchester Jewish Council cultivates and strengthens
meaningful relationships with elected officials, as well as with other
ethnic, faith-based, and civic organizations, thereby promoting mutual
understanding, cooperation, and shared civic responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Among its many significant initiatives, the Westchester
Jewish Council co-sponsors the annual County-Wide Holocaust
Commemoration, leads and supports educational programs related to
Israel, advances environmental sustainability efforts, coordinates with
community and faith-based partners to combat prejudice and
discrimination, and enriches Jewish communal life through inclusive
initiatives, including LGBTQ inclusion; and
WHEREAS, For 50 years, the Westchester Jewish Council has
demonstrated steadfast commitment to advocacy, education, inclusion, and
community-building, earning the respect and gratitude of its members,
partners, and the people of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Westchester Jewish Council, and
to commend the organization for its outstanding contributions to the
Jewish community of Westchester County and to the civic life of New York
State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Westchester Jewish Council.
