COMMENDING Head Coach Don Johnson upon the
occasion of his retirement after many years of
coaching at Morrisville-Eaton High School
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge outstanding individuals within our midst who
have made significant contributions to the communities of this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Head Coach
Don Johnson upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
coaching at Morrisville-Eaton High School; and
WHEREAS, For the last 12 of 30 seasons, Don Johnson has filled the
role of Head Coach at Morrisville-Eaton High School; prior to coaching
the Mavericks, he coached at Sherburne-Earlville High School; and
WHEREAS, Morrisville-Eaton's Mavericks sent their coach out on top
by beating the Eldred Yellowjackets 40-12 in New York's State Regional
Eight-Player Football Championship game; and
WHEREAS, The Mavericks completed an 11-2 season with an 11th
consecutive victory; the Section III champions scored a touchdown on the
second play from scrimmage at Cicero-North Syracuse High School's
Michael J. Bragman Athletic Complex and led throughout the final game of
the eight-player season, following Frankfort-Schuyler as the section's
second consecutive intersectional champion; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Don Johnson and 10 seniors completed their run
with an impressive victory; the Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks led the
Eldred Yellowjackets 16-0 just over three minutes into the game; and
WHEREAS, Retirement from coaching is emotional for Don Johnson, but
he has plans and leaves his son, Ethan, as an assistant and likely
replacement; three years ago, he retired from his position at Colgate
University; there is a possibility that he will return to
Morrisville-Eaton as an assistant or volunteer; and
WHEREAS, Don Johnson and his wife, who retired from teaching, will
take time to travel; the couple has plans to enjoy Ireland this year;
and
WHEREAS, The many contributions of which Don Johnson has played a
vital role are a testament to his legacy which will inspire future
students and athletes of Morrisville-Eaton High School for generations
to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated individuals who have shown a long and sustained commitment to
excellence unquestionably have earned the recognition and applause of
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Head Coach Don Johnson upon the occasion of his retirement and
to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Head Coach Don Johnson.
