COMMENDING the Consulate General of the
Co-operative Republic of Guyana in New York upon the
occasion of hosting Guyana's 56th Republic
Anniversary Interfaith Service on February 22, 2026
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those distinguished cultural and diplomatic institutions whose
efforts preserve heritage, promote unity, and strengthen the bonds of
international friendship within our communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Consulate General of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana in
New York upon the occasion of hosting Guyana's 56th Republic Anniversary
Interfaith Service, to be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026; and
WHEREAS, The Co-operative Republic of Guyana, located on the
northern coast of South America, is a nation rich in cultural diversity,
natural beauty, and historic significance, having achieved independence
from Great Britain on May 26, 1966, and proudly becoming a Republic on
February 23, 1970, forging a sovereign identity rooted in democratic
governance and cooperative development; and
WHEREAS, Guyana's national motto, "One People, One Nation, One
Destiny," reflects the spirit of harmony among its citizens of African,
Indian, Indigenous, European, Chinese, and Portuguese descent, a
multicultural legacy that continues to flourish both in the homeland and
throughout the global diaspora; and
WHEREAS, The Interfaith Service stands as a sacred and unifying
observance, bringing together religious leaders and faithful of many
traditions in thanksgiving, reflection, and prayer for the continued
prosperity, peace, and advancement of the Guyanese people; and
WHEREAS, The Guyanese diaspora has made profound and lasting
contributions to the State of New York, enriching the social, cultural,
economic, and civic fabric of communities through leadership in public
service, healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, labor, faith
institutions, and the arts; and
WHEREAS, Through cultural celebrations, philanthropic outreach, and
steadfast community engagement, Guyanese-Americans have strengthened
neighborhood institutions, uplifted immigrant families, and preserved
the proud traditions of their ancestral homeland for future generations;
and
WHEREAS, Providing distinguished leadership for this commemorative
observance is Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, Consul General of the
Co-operative Republic of Guyana in New York, who has faithfully served
in this role since 2022, working diligently to advance diplomatic
relations, support Guyanese nationals abroad, and promote the cultural
and economic interests of Guyana throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, Under Ambassador Brotherson's stewardship, the Consulate
General continues to serve as a vital bridge between nations, fostering
unity within the diaspora while strengthening the enduring partnership
between Guyana and the United States; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper that this Legislative Body pause
in its deliberations to honor this meaningful observance, celebrating
the history of the Guyanese Republic and the vibrant legacy of its
people; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Consulate General of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana in
New York upon the occasion of hosting Guyana's 56th Republic Anniversary
Interfaith Service on February 22, 2026, and to extend sincere
appreciation for its continued commitment to cultural preservation,
spiritual unity, and international fellowship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, Consul General of the
Co-operative Republic of Guyana in New York, in recognition of his
distinguished leadership and service.
