Senate Resolution No. 1582

        COMMENDING  Simon  Lissner  posthumously  upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
commend  the  caring  concern  and  heroic  acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in  emergency  situations,  nobly  risking
their own lives in an effort to preserve the lives of others; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commend  Simon Lissner posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the  highest  honor  bestowed  upon  an
individual by the New York State Senate; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Lissner family's home on Tarn  Trail  in  Concord,  New
York,  caught  fire  in  the  early morning of Monday, January 19, 2026;
Simon Lissner, a man dedicated to a  life  of  service  to  others,  was
instrumental  in  notifying his family members of the blaze and ushering
them to safety; and
 
  WHEREAS, With his bravery and quick thinking, Simon Lissner was able
to protect the lives of his wife, their daughter, and  their  daughter's
boyfriend; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  revered citizen and veteran with 33 years of courageous
military service and three tours of duty overseas, Simon Lissner retired
from the United States Air Force as a medic; and
 
  WHEREAS, With his experience as a medic and as an avid skier,  Simon
Lissner  was  on  his  fifteenth  season  of  volunteer service with the
Kissing Bridge Ski Patrol at the time of his passing; and
 
  WHEREAS, Simon Lissner was a respected medical  technician  for  the
Buffalo Niagara Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS); and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  truly  brave  and  courageous individual, Simon Lissner
played a vital role in this extraordinary rescue effort  and  should  be
praised  by  the people of this great Empire State for his swift actions
in working to preserve the lives of others; and
 
  WHEREAS, Simon Lissner, in his spontaneous and heroic  act,  has  so
aptly  demonstrated  his  character  and  compassion  for the welfare of
others, personifying, by virtue of his action, the collective concern of
citizens across the community of New York State who voluntarily  respond
without  thought  of  danger  or  reward  when  others  need  help; now,
therefore, be it
 
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Simon Lissner posthumously upon the occasion of his  designation
as  recipient  of  a  Liberty  Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Simon Lissner.
