Senate Resolution No. 1583

        COMMENDING  Earl  E.  Seelow posthumously upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body is justly proud to commend Earl E.
Seelow posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an  individual  by  the
New York State Senate; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, Earl E. Seelow is being  honored  by  the  Saratoga  County
Honor  a  Veteran  Committee  during  their  Honor a Veteran Ceremony on
Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the County Building in Ballston Spa, New
York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Earl E. Seelow was born on October 20, 1932,  in  Edinburg,
New York, to Edwin and Flora Seelow; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Earl  E. Seelow entered the United States Army on November
13, 1952; he trained as an Infantryman and was sent to Korea,  where  he
was  assigned to Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division
with whom he would serve his entire time in the Korean War; and
 
  WHEREAS, During his service in the Korean War, Earl E. Seelow fought
valiantly in the Third Korean Winter campaign at  the  Battles  of  Pork
Chop Hill and Old Baldy; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Earl  E.  Seelow  was honorably discharged on November 12,
1954, at the rank of Technical Sergeant; and
 
  WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the Korean War,  Earl  E.
Seelow  was  awarded  the  Korean  Service Medal with two Bronze Service
Stars, two Overseas Bars,  the  United  Nations  Service  Medal,  Combat
Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the ROK Presidential
Unit Emblem; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Shortly  after  his  honorable  discharge,  Earl E. Seelow
married his wife Valerie on April 21, 1956, and together they shared  67
years of marriage and raised four cherished sons; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Earl E. Seelow spent his career at the International Paper
Company in Corinth, New York, where he worked for 37 years and served as
UPIU union officer for 22 years  before  retirement  in  1994;  he  also
 
worked  at  the  Olde Saratoga Brewing Company with his son, Jim, for 12
years; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  a  strong commitment to public service and community
involvement, Earl E. Seelow was the community  bowling  center  manager,
the  Corinth  town  assessor  for  five  years, a crossing guard for the
Corinth School, and coach, umpire, and executive board  member  for  the
Corinth Little League; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  desire  to  protect his neighbors and local community
inspired Earl E. Seelow to serve as assistant fire chief of the Edinburg
Fire Department, and he was always willing to respond to  any  call  for
help; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Earl E. Seelow was a member of the Free and Accepted Mason
Lodge 22, Shriners Valley of Albany, Oriental Temple of  Troy,  American
Legion Post 533, and New York State Assessor's Association; and
 
  WHEREAS, Earl E. Seelow died on February 15, 2024, at the age of 91;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with  which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed  to  those  who  gave  their
lives  for  their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
 
  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
Earl  E.    Seelow  demonstrated  his  love  for  his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized,  commended,
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Earl E. Seelow posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the  highest  honor  bestowed  upon  an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Earl E. Seelow.
