MOURNING the death of Mark Robert Smith, devoted
public servant, accomplished professional, and
esteemed member of the Johnsburg community
WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the passing of Mark Robert Smith, a respected public servant and
community leader, who died peacefully at his home on January 26, 2026,
at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, Born on September 3, 1963, in Amsterdam, New York, Mark
Robert Smith was the son of the late Robert Smith and Norma (Hubschmitt)
Smith, and throughout his life exemplified dedication, intellect, and
service to others; and
WHEREAS, Mark Smith was educated in New York State, graduating from
Canajoharie High School in 1981, and later earning a bachelor's degree
in electrical engineering from Clarkson University, achievements which
laid the foundation for a distinguished professional career; and
WHEREAS, Following his academic pursuits, Mark Smith honorably
served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1986 to
1989, attaining the rank of Lieutenant, reflecting his commitment to
leadership and public duty; and
WHEREAS, Mark Smith went on to build an accomplished career in
international business and pharmaceutical research and development, most
recently serving as President of Global Pharma Solutions, LLC, and
previously working abroad in Japan as a business development and project
manager; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, Mark Smith
was an author whose published works reflected his thoughtful engagement
with history, governance, and global commerce, further demonstrating his
intellectual curiosity and dedication to informed civic discourse; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to public service at the local and county
levels, Mark Smith served as Town Supervisor of Johnsburg and was an
active participant on the Warren County Board of Supervisors, as well as
a board member of the Warren County Local Development Corporation and
the Warren-Washington Counties Industrial Development Agency; and
WHEREAS, Through his service, Mark Smith earned the respect of
colleagues and constituents alike for his diligence, fairness, and
independent thinking, and he brought insight, professionalism, and
integrity to every role he undertook; and
WHEREAS, Beyond his public and professional life, Mark Smith found
joy in playing the guitar, studying history, and spending time outdoors,
pursuits that reflected his well-rounded character and appreciation for
both creativity and nature; and
WHEREAS, Mark Smith is survived by his mother, Norma; his children,
Abraham Alexander Smith, Yuri Smith, and Ami Smith; his brother, David
F. Smith; his sister, Polly I. Smith; his longtime friend, Barbara
Corrigan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, to whom he was a
source of love, guidance, and support; and
WHEREAS, Mark Robert Smith's death is mourned by all who had the
privilege of knowing him and working alongside him, and his legacy of
service, integrity, and commitment to the public good will long be
remembered throughout the Town of Johnsburg and Warren County; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Mark Robert Smith, and to honor his life, his service
to the people of New York State, and his lasting contributions to his
community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Mark Robert Smith.
