Senate Resolution No. 1593

        CONGRATULATING   Madison   Olivia  Shum  upon  the
        occasion of  receiving  the  distinguished  rank  of
        Eagle Scout, the most prestigious of Scouting honors
 
  WHEREAS,  Madison  Olivia  Shum,  through her diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's  highest  and  most  prestigious  rank,
Eagle Scout; the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony will be held at St.
Edward the Confessor Church in Syosset, New York, on Saturday, March 28,
2026; and
 
  WHEREAS, Syosset High School senior Madison Olivia Shum, of Syosset,
is a member of Scouting America Troop 205 in Syosset, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination, and tireless efforts of  the  outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Scouting  America  and  its  members  are dedicated to the
development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in  Scouting  is  the
distinguished rank of Eagle Scout; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Madison Olivia Shum has been involved in Scouting for many
years, has lived up to Scouting's  ideals,  and  has  attained  all  the
necessary  achievements,  including  completion  of  a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed,  and  executed;  she
officially became an Eagle Scout on November 11, 2025; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Madison  Olivia Shum contributed her time and hard work to
complete her project for West Hills County Park; and
 
  WHEREAS, For her Eagle Scout project, Madison Olivia  Shum  designed
and  built  a  30'  x  40'  kidney-bean-shaped  pollinator  garden which
features four bee "hotels," an arbor bench, and an educational sign that
highlights the 20 native Long Island plant species incorporated into the
space; and
 
  WHEREAS, The garden sits directly across  from  the  park's  visitor
center  in an area that was previously an empty grassy field; the effort
required  extensive  logistical  coordination,  material  sourcing,  and
leadership, ultimately bringing together volunteers who contributed more
than 500 hours; and
 
  WHEREAS,   This   initiative  provides  a  lasting  benefit  to  the
community;  beyond  enhancing  the  park's  visual  appeal,  the  garden
supports  biodiversity,  strengthens the local ecosystem, and encourages
environmental appreciation; an  unused  space  was  transformed  into  a
welcoming area that promotes outdoor recreation, conservation awareness,
and community engagement; and
 
 
  WHEREAS,  Madison  Olivia  Shum's perseverance in rising through the
ranks to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of  her  ability  to  master
difficult  tasks;  her  accomplishment  will  enable  her to emerge as a
leader, fully  equipped  to  meet  the  challenges  of  today's  complex
society; and
 
  WHEREAS, Madison Olivia Shum's dedication to the enhancement of West
Hills  County  Park is represented through her devotion to community and
commitment to others; and
 
  WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to her family, her school,
her community, her State, and her Nation; undoubtedly, her  future  will
be  filled  with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be
it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations,  in
recognition  of  the  significance  of  this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Madison Olivia Shum  on  achieving  the  rank  of
Eagle Scout; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Madison Olivia Shum.
