HONORING Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Distinguished
Faculty Award by the North Shore Hebrew Academy at
its 71st Annual Dinner Celebration on March 22, 2026
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein has given not only her time and
energy, but also her competence, intelligence, and leadership, and
consequently has been designated for this special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Dorothy
Bruckstein upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Distinguished Faculty Award by the North Shore Hebrew Academy (NSHA) at
its 71st Annual Dinner Celebration at the Old Westbury Hebrew
Congregation on Sunday, March 22, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein has been called upon to contribute
her time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein began her professional career with
earning a bachelor's degree in nursing from Lehman College and a
master's degree in nursing from New York University before going on to
receive her PhD in clinical/school psychology from Hofstra University;
and
WHEREAS, With an initial focus on clinical practice, Dr. Dorothy
Bruckstein found her true passion for school psychology and has served
the students of NSHA faithfully and with expertise for the past 25
years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein treasures the sense of family,
respect, and kindness that defines NSHA High School and feels privileged
to work closely with students and families to support their growth and
well-being; and
WHEREAS, Exemplifying her passion for her work and commitment to
upholding the highest standards of practice, Dr. Bruckstein is a member
of the American Psychological Association, National Association of
School Psychologists, and NEFESH International (Network of Orthodox
Mental Health Professionals); and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, Alex; her
children, Tammy, Shavy, Sarah, and Moishe; her twelve grandchildren; and
her four great-grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her fruitful life and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her service, a period of
constructive involvement, Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein has stood constant in
dignity, good grace, and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein has
displayed throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
Legislative Body honor Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award by the North
Shore Hebrew Academy at its 71st Annual Dinner Celebration; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Dorothy Bruckstein.
