Senate Resolution No. 1730

        CONGRATULATING Andrew Telesky upon the occasion of
        capturing  the  2026 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Section
        III Championship title
 
  WHEREAS,  Excellence  and  success  in  competitive  sports  can  be
achieved  only  through  strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  enhances  the  moral  and  physical
development  of  the  young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in  them  the  value  of  teamwork,  encouraging  a
standard  of  healthy  living,  imparting  a  desire  for  success,  and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to  congratulate
Andrew  Telesky  of Sherburne-Earlville High School upon the occasion of
capturing the 2026 NYSPHSAA  Boys  Wrestling  Section  III  Championship
title  at  the  MVP Arena in Albany, New York, on Saturday, February 28,
2026; and
 
  WHEREAS,  To  the  praise  and  applause  of   his   excited   fans,
Sherburn-Earlville's  eighth-grader, Andrew Telesky, won the Division 2,
103-pound bracket with back-to-back upsets, becoming the school's  first
state champion since 2016 and fourth all-time champion; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Andrew Telesky, who went 2-2 in his first state tournament
as a seventh-grader, finished this season with a 34-3 record and is 76-9
overall with the Timberwolves; and
 
  WHEREAS, The two-time Section III champion opened the second day  of
competition  by  pinning  his  opponent  in  the  second period of their
semifinal and completed his state title run with an 8-7 decision; and
 
  WHEREAS, Andrew Telesky entered the tournament  as  the  number-four
seed and advanced to the state semifinals by following a first-round bye
with  a  technical-fall  victory  in the second round and a 4-1 decision
over his S-E opponent in the quarterfinals Friday; and
 
  WHEREAS, Andrew Telesky avenged a first-round loss to Duryea in  the
2025 state tournament with a furious third-period comeback in Saturday's
D-II  finale;  taken down in the first period and giving up two reversal
points in the next, he scored his first  point  on  an  escape  with  13
seconds to go in the second period; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  a  5-1  hole, with two minutes remaining in his second
varsity wrestling season, Andrew Telesky turned everything around in  60
seconds  with  a  seven-point  sequence; three takedown points, and four
more,  for  an  ensuing  near-fall  gave  him  an  8-5  lead,  his  20th
consecutive victory; and
 
  WHEREAS, The talent displayed by this athlete is due, in great part,
to  the  efforts  of an outstanding coach who has the ability to develop
potential into excellence; and
 
 
  WHEREAS,  In  a  sport,  such  as  wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed, and agility, Coach Greg DuVall worked hard to  hone  the
skills  of  this  outstanding  champion, teaching him lessons which will
prove invaluable both on and off the mat; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  Andrew  Telesky  upon  the  occasion of capturing the 2026
NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling  Section  III  Championship  title;  and  be  it
further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  copies  of  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Andrew Telesky and Coach Greg DuVall.
