COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Colgate
Inn of Hamilton, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
illustrious establishments which have positively impacted and
substantially contributed to the vitality of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Colgate Inn of Hamilton, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Built by Elisha Payne in 1804, the Park House opened its
doors at the intersection of Broad and Lebanon Streets where it stood
for over a century, surviving the Great Fire of 1895 that greatly
damaged the town of Hamilton; and
WHEREAS, The Dutch-colonial style Colgate Inn was opened in 1925,
replacing the Park House in the center of the historic village of
Hamilton; and
WHEREAS, In 1973, the Colgate Inn was purchased by Colgate Inn LLC;
the hotel has been a fundamental part of Hamilton, providing a true
local experience; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, The Tap Room - formerly The Payne Street Corner
and the Salmagundi Bar & Restaurant - was renovated to provide top-notch
service to guests and the community; and
WHEREAS, The hotel underwent a complete renovation that included
guest rooms, dining and banquet spaces, the patio area, meeting rooms,
and The Tavern in 2010; and
WHEREAS, More massive renovations came to the parlor, meeting
spaces, and lobby in 2018, and in 2024, the Colgate Inn's rooms were
refreshed to artfully blend contemporary design with enduring elegance
for a comforting night's stay; and
WHEREAS, A landmark within its community, the Colgate Inn has been
intertwined with the spirit of Colgate University, serving as a home
base for visiting families, alumni, and faculty; from offering
accommodation for potential students to milestone celebrations, the inn
is a cherished space for the Colgate community; and
WHEREAS, The remarkable success of the Colgate Inn is due in large
part to its management and staff, whose warmth and hospitality are
easily recognized by their loyal patrons; this dynamic team is
well-versed in customer service and truly makes everyone who walks
through their door feel like family; and
WHEREAS, For one hundred years, the Colgate Inn has stood as a
beloved establishment which has provided a friendly, open environment
for patrons to collectively gather, rest, share their thoughts, ideas
and life experiences; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Colgate Inn of Hamilton, New
York, and to offer best wishes to the Colgate Inn for continued success;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Colgate Inn.
