Senate Resolution No. 1784

        CONGRATULATING  St.  John's  Episcopal Church upon
        the occasion of celebrating its 200th Anniversary
 
  WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social, and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in  the  development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who  have  contributed  to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
congratulate  St. John's Episcopal Church of Brooklyn, New York upon the
occasion of celebrating its  200th  Anniversary,  to  be  celebrated  on
Sunday, May 17, 2026; and
 
  WHEREAS, Founded in 1826 as the first integrated Episcopal parish in
Brooklyn,  St.  John's has long stood as a beacon of inclusion and faith
in the borough; and
 
  WHEREAS, Moving to the Park Slope neighborhood of Brookyln in  1869,
St.    John's  Episcopal  Church  has  been hosting services in the same
building for over 150 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, St. John's Episcopal  Church  proudly  maintains  a  strong
Caribbean  legacy, with many first-generation Caribbean immigrants among
its parishioners; today, the church  is  a  thriving,  multigenerational
congregation   representing   diverse   races,   cultures,   and  sexual
orientations; and
 
  WHEREAS, Today, St. John's Episcopal Church stands on the  threshold
of  tomorrow,  prepared  to  meet  the challenges of the coming decades,
while retaining that spiritual resolve which has  so  characterized  its
glorious past; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such  institutions  to  the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate  St.  John's  Episcopal  Church  upon   the   occasion   of
celebrating its 200th Anniversary; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted
to St.  John's Episcopal Church of Brooklyn, New York.
