Senate Resolution No. 1817

MOURNING the untimely death of Sheridan G. Gorman,
beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin,
niece, and friend
WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Sheridan G. Gorman, an extraordinary young
woman whose short, yet purposeful life will long serve as a standard to
which others might aspire; and
WHEREAS, Sheridan G. Gorman of Yorktown Heights, New York, died on
Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the age of 18; and
WHEREAS, Sheridan G. Gorman was born on July 6, 2007, to her adoring
parents, Jessica (Simonds) and Thomas Gorman; she was the cherished
sister of Madelon Gorman; and
WHEREAS, In the 18 years she graced this earth, Sheridan G. Gorman
touched the lives of everyone she met; she filled every space she
entered with a rare and unmistakable warmth and a spirit that was
vibrant, compassionate, and full of life; and
WHEREAS, Loved by all she met, Sheridan G. Gorman was the center of
her family's world, and she was a reliable source of joy, laughter, and
light; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Yorktown Heights, Sheridan G. Gorman
attended Yorktown High School and felt immense pride for her hometown;
and
WHEREAS, As a proud Yorktown girl, Sheridan G. Gorman was an athlete
and a leader in high school, and she participated in activities such as
field hockey, lacrosse, and bowling; Sheridan G. Gorman also gave back
to younger generations by serving as a mentor for younger students in
the Yorktown Athletic Club; and
WHEREAS, Filled with a fierce loyalty, Sheridan G. Gorman was known
to cheer loudly for her school, her teams, and her Yorktown Heights
community; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Sheridan G. Gorman went
on to attend Loyola University Chicago, a university she loved and
adored; and
WHEREAS, Despite leaving her hometown to earn her undergraduate
degree in Chicago, Illinois, Sheridan G. Gorman still brought her
signature excitement, warmth, and spirit with her as she embraced this
next chapter; and
WHEREAS, Above all, Sheridan G. Gorman was everyone's cheerleader,
always finding a way to make people feel seen, valued, and believed in;
in every circumstance, Sheridan G. Gorman brought people together,
lifted them up, and made ordinary moments feel extraordinary simply by
being her loving self; and
WHEREAS, Sheridan G. Gorman will be remembered for her radiant
warmth, compassionate spirit, and fierce love for her family, friends,
community, and faith; and
WHEREAS, Sheridan G. Gorman is survived by her parents, Jessica
(Simonds) and Thomas Gorman; her loving sister, Madelon Gorman; her
grandparents, Thomas and Columbia Gorman, Paula Cannata, and Saul and
Nava Ben-Meyer; her devoted uncles and aunt, Marc and Nacole (Simonds)
Zeevalk, and Keith and Max Sorett-Gorman; her adored baby cousin, Lilla
Zeevalk; her lifelong friends, Kaitlyn Sheehy and Annie Durante; and
countless family members and dear friends who loved her deeply; and
WHEREAS, Sheridan G. Gorman's infinite kindness and joy will shine
on through the memories her family and friends have of her; her strength
and resilience will forever serve as a beacon of love, light, and hope
to the countless lives she touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Sheridan G. Gorman leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing young woman;
she will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the untimely death of Sheridan G. Gorman and to express its
deepest condolences to her family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Sheridan G. Gorman.
