COMMENDING Bruce E. Abare posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished individuals whose lives exemplify courage,
dedication, and service to their community, State, and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
longstanding traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Bruce E. Abare posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as a recipient of the Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Bruce E. Abare was born on May 16, 1951, in Glens Falls,
New York, to Edward and Anna Abare, and graduated from South Glens Falls
High School in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating his deep sense of patriotism and commitment
to his country, Bruce E. Abare entered the United States Air Force on
February 24, 1971; and
WHEREAS, During his honorable military service from 1971 to 1978,
Bruce E. Abare trained and served as an Airplane Maintenance Specialist,
contributing his technical expertise and steadfast dedication to the
operational readiness of critical military aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Bruce E. Abare was assigned to the 307th Organizational
Maintenance Squadron (Strategic Air Command) and later to the 438th
Military Airlift Wing, serving both at home and abroad, including
deployment to Vietnam and assignment at U-Tapao Air Base in Thailand,
where he reenlisted for a second tour of duty; and
WHEREAS, For his meritorious service, Bruce E. Abare was awarded
numerous decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the
Air Force Longevity Service Award, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air
Force Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Republic of
Vietnam Campaign Medal; and
WHEREAS, Bruce E. Abare was honorably discharged on March 29, 1978,
with the rank of Sergeant, having faithfully served his Nation with
honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Bruce E. Abare devoted
himself to his family and community; he was married to his beloved wife,
Sandra, for 32 years, and together they raised five children; and
WHEREAS, A man of strong faith and community spirit, Bruce E. Abare
was an active member of the Fortsville Methodist Church and worked
diligently for the Town of Moreau in its Department of Public Works
until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Bruce E. Abare found great joy in the outdoors, enjoying
hunting, fishing, and camping, and was known for his dedication to
family, his work ethic, and his quiet strength; and
WHEREAS, Bruce E. Abare died on January 29, 2023, leaving behind a
legacy of service, integrity, and devotion to both his country and his
community; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Bruce E. Abare demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate Bruce E. Abare posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as a recipient of the Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Bruce E. Abare.
