RECOGNIZING May 2, 2026, as I Love My Park Day in
the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to observe days
that promote the enhancement of the lives of the citizenry of this Great
State of New York, particularly, those which serve to increase the
public interest and stewardship of our planet and natural environment;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
recognize May 2, 2026, as I Love My Park Day in the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, Parks & Trails New York, in partnership with the Department
of Environmental Conservation and State Parks, hosts I Love My Park Day
on the first Saturday in May, attracting thousands of volunteers from
across the state to participate in stewardship events on New York public
lands; and
WHEREAS, I Love My Parks Day is the State of New York's largest
single-day volunteer event; citizens from across the state help prepare
for spring by cleaning up campgrounds, parks, and beaches; planting
native trees and pollinator gardens; restoring trail and wildlife
habitat; removing invasive species; and working on various other site
improvement projects; and
WHEREAS, These efforts not only enhance the natural beauty and
accessibility of New York's iconic state park system but also ensure
that these cherished spaces are ready to be enjoyed by all for
generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Residents of the State of New York are encouraged to
participate in cleanup and restoration efforts at their local and state
parks on May 2, 2026, to ensure that the natural environment remains
pristine and prospers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize May 2, 2026, as I Love My Park Day in the State of New York.
