        COMMEMORATING  the  10th Anniversary of the Broome
        County Regional Farmers Market
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  the
achievements   of  those  individuals  and  businesses  that  contribute
substantially to the economic vitality  of  their  communities,  thereby
enhancing the economic well-being of the entire Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  10th Anniversary of the Broome County Regional Farmers
Market; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 2016, the Broome  County  Regional  Farmers  Market  was
established  through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County as a
regional hub  for  locally  grown  and  produced  food  in  the  Greater
Binghamton area; and
 
  WHEREAS, Now entering its 10th season, the Market connects residents
with  farmers,  food-based  businesses,  and agricultural producers from
across the region, strengthening local food  systems  and  the  regional
agricultural economy; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Market  participates in nutrition incentive programs,
providing access to locally  grown  food  for  income-eligible  shoppers
throughout Broome County; many of the Market's food-based businesses are
supported  by  Cornell  Cooperative  Extension's Incubator Kitchen which
provides local food entrepreneurs with a licensed  facility  to  produce
the goods they contribute; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Mindful  of wastefulness, at the close of each market day,
participating vendors donate unsold products to Binghamton Food  Rescue,
ensuring that fresh food reaches community members in need; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County manages the
Market's operations and connects this integral part of the community  to
broader   food  systems  programming,  including  Grown  in  Broome  and
agricultural education initiatives; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  with  immense  pride  that  the  hard-working  and
dedicated members of the Broome County Regional Farmers Market celebrate
this  milestone  10th Anniversary and anticipate continued success; now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  10th Anniversary of the Broome County Regional Farmers
Market; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the Broome County Regional Farmers Market.
