Senate Resolution No. 1958

        COMMENDING  Sergeant  Boyd  F.  Allen posthumously
        upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
        a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon  an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS,  Members  of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars  in  which  this
country's  freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time deserve a special salute from this esteemed Body; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commend Boyd F. Allen posthumously upon the occasion of his  designation
as  recipient  of  a  Liberty  Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and
 
  WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established  by
Resolution  and  is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf  of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Born  and  raised in Tannersville, New York, Boyd F. Allen
enlisted in the  United  States  Army  on  April  8,  1943,  and  served
honorably   with  the  23rd  Armored  Engineer  Battalion,  3rd  Armored
Division, during World War II; and
 
  WHEREAS, During his service, Sgt. Boyd F. Allen participated in  the
Battle  of  the  Bulge,  where his duties included the hazardous work of
clearing land mines and  supporting  frontline  mobility  and  defensive
operations  under  active  combat  conditions  during  one  of  the most
critical campaigns; and
 
  WHEREAS, For his courageous service, Boyd F. Allen was  awarded  the
World  War II Victory Medal, the European African-Middle Eastern Service
Medal, the American Service Medal,  the  Good  Conduct  Medal,  and  two
Purple Hearts for wounds sustained in combat; and
 
  WHEREAS, Following his military service, Boyd F. Allen served as the
Greene  County  Superintendent  of  Highways for sixteen years, during a
significant period of highway expansion in the  United  States;  he  was
elected  Mayor  of  Tannersville and later operated a surveying business
that served a wide area throughout Greene County; and
 
  WHEREAS, Throughout  his  career,  Boyd  F.  Allen  demonstrated  an
enduring   commitment   to  his  community  by  providing  guidance  and
opportunities to many young citizens in  Greene  County  as  they  began
their own careers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Just  days  before his 99th birthday, Boyd F. Allen passed
away on January 6, 2013; and
 
  WHEREAS, Boyd F. Allen was chosen as the  recipient  of  the  Greene
County Memorial Veteran Award for 2026; and
 
 
  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Boyd F.   Allen  demonstrated  his  love  for  his  country  and  merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Sergeant  Boyd  F.  Allen posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor  bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Boyd F. Allen.
