        HONORING  Carlos  Beltran upon the occasion of his
        induction into the National Baseball  Hall  of  Fame
        and  in  recognition of his extraordinary career and
        philanthropic contributions
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
honor  those  distinguished  individuals  whose achievements and service
have made a lasting impact on their communities, their professions,  and
the people of the State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Carlos Beltran upon the occasion of  his  induction  into  the  National
Baseball  Hall  of  Fame,  to  recognize  his  extraordinary  career and
philanthropic contributions, and to warmly welcome him to the  New  York
State Capitol on Tuesday, May 5, 2026; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Carlos  Beltran, an exceptional athlete, humanitarian, and
role model, has demonstrated  excellence  both  on  and  off  the  field
throughout his illustrious career; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Over  the course of a remarkable 20-season career in Major
League Baseball, Carlos Beltran distinguished  himself  as  one  of  the
game's  most  complete  players,  known  for  his  elite  switch-hitting
ability, defensive excellence, and baserunning prowess; and
 
  WHEREAS, Carlos Beltran proudly represented New York for 10 seasons,
including seven seasons with the New York Mets from  2005  to  2011  and
three  seasons  with the New York Yankees from 2014 to 2016, earning the
admiration and respect of fans across the State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Among  his  many  extraordinary  accomplishments,   Carlos
Beltran  is one of only four players in Major League Baseball history to
record at least 400 home runs, 300 stolen bases, and  three  Gold  Glove
Awards,  and  his  86.4  percent  stolen base success rate stands as the
highest among players with at least 300 steals; and
 
  WHEREAS,  His  distinguished  career  includes  numerous  accolades,
including  being  named  American  League  Rookie  of  the Year in 1999,
selection as a nine-time All-Star, recipient of three  consecutive  Gold
Glove  Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards, and the prestigious Roberto
Clemente Award in 2013 in recognition of his community service; and
 
  WHEREAS, Carlos Beltran competed at the highest  level  of  baseball
contributing  to multiple postseason appearances and earning distinction
as a World Series Champion in 2017; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  recognition  of  his  extraordinary  achievements  and
lasting  impact  on  the  sport,  Carlos Beltran has been elected to the
National Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted on  July  26,  2026,
with his plaque bearing a New York Mets cap; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Further  honoring  his  legacy in New York, Carlos Beltran
will be inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame  on  September  19,
2026; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Beyond his accomplishments in baseball, Carlos Beltran has
demonstrated an unwavering  commitment  to  philanthropy  and  community
service; and
 
  WHEREAS, Through the Carlos Beltran Foundation, established in 1999,
he   has   supported   education  and  youth  development  by  providing
scholarships and resources to students in Puerto  Rico  and  the  United
States; and
 
  WHEREAS, He also founded the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in 2011
to  provide  young  athletes  with high-level baseball training combined
with a strong academic curriculum; and
 
  WHEREAS,  His  dedication  to  education  includes  establishing   a
scholarship  at  Hostos  Community College in the Bronx in 2014, further
demonstrating  his  commitment  to  empowering  students  in  New  York;
furthermore,  through  his annual "A Night in Old San Juan" gala, he has
raised  substantial   funds   to   support   scholarships   and   expand
opportunities for underserved students; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  response  to  Hurricane  Maria in 2017, Carlos Beltran
generously donated one million dollars to support  recovery  efforts  in
Puerto  Rico, exemplifying compassion and leadership in times of crisis;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  Carlos  Beltran's  legacy  is  defined  not  only  by  his
excellence   in   professional   baseball   but  also  by  his  enduring
contributions to  education,  community  development,  and  humanitarian
causes; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carlos Beltran  upon  the  occasion  of  his  induction  into  the
National  Baseball  Hall  of Fame and to commend him for his outstanding
career, exemplary character, and steadfast commitment to  improving  the
lives of others; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carlos Beltran.
