HONORING Kyle Palmieri upon the occasion of his
designation as Italian American of the Year by the
New York Conference of Italian American State
Legislators on May 18, 2026
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those distinguished individuals of Italian American heritage
whose professional achievements, personal integrity, and dedication to
community serve to enrich the State of New York and bring honor to their
ancestry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kyle Palmieri upon the occasion of his designation as Italian American
of the Year by the New York Conference of Italian American State
Legislators, to be celebrated on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Kyle Palmieri has distinguished himself as an exemplary
athlete, leader, and ambassador of the sport of ice hockey, reflecting
great credit upon himself, his family, and his Italian American
heritage; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 1, 1991, in Smithtown, New York, and
raised in Montvale, New Jersey, Kyle Palmieri developed his passion and
skill for hockey at an early age, attending St. Peter's Prep and playing
youth hockey in West Orange, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Kyle Palmieri honed his talents with the USA Hockey
National Team Development Program before advancing to collegiate
competition at the University of Notre Dame, where he recorded 17 points
in 33 games during the 2009-2010 season; and
WHEREAS, Selected 26th overall in the first round of the 2009 NHL
Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Kyle Palmieri began his professional
career with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, where he
quickly established himself as a dynamic scorer, including recording a
hat trick early in his tenure; and
WHEREAS, Kyle Palmieri made his National Hockey League debut on
November 3, 2010, with the Anaheim Ducks, scoring his first career goal
in that same game, and went on to contribute over five seasons with the
organization; and
WHEREAS, On June 27, 2015, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils,
where he emerged as a cornerstone offensive leader, scoring 132 goals
over five seasons, achieving seven 20-goal seasons, including a 30-goal
campaign in 2015-2016, and earning selection to the 2019 NHL All-Star
Game; and
WHEREAS, On April 7, 2021, Kyle Palmieri was traded to the New York
Islanders, where he has continued to demonstrate leadership and
consistency, serving as an alternate captain and playing a key role in
the team's success; and
WHEREAS, In May 2025, he signed a two-year contract extension,
ensuring his continued contributions to the Islanders organization
through the 2026-2027 season; and
WHEREAS, Internationally, Kyle Palmieri has proudly represented the
United States, earning a gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior
Championship, a bronze medal at the 2011 World Junior Championship, and
a bronze medal at the 2008 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, in addition
to competing in the 2012 World Championship and the 2016 World Cup of
Hockey; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Kyle Palmieri has exemplified the
values of perseverance, sportsmanship, and excellence, earning
recognition such as selection to the AHL First All-Star Team in 2012;
and
WHEREAS, As a proud Italian American, Kyle Palmieri serves as an
inspiration to aspiring athletes and young people throughout New York
and the nation, embodying the enduring legacy of hard work, dedication,
and cultural pride; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kyle Palmieri upon the occasion of his designation as Italian
American of the Year by the New York Conference of Italian American
State Legislators on May 18, 2026; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kyle Palmieri.
