RECOGNIZING May 24, 2026, as Paige Elizabeth Keely
Day in the State of New York
WHEREAS, Paige Elizabeth Keely was born on May 24, 2011, in New York
and brought immense joy and light to her family and community as a
vibrant, loving child known affectionately as "Paigey Bean"; and
WHEREAS, On January 8, 2018, at just six years old, Paige Elizabeth
Keely tragically passed away from complications of a ruptured,
undetected brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a congenital
condition often silent until a life-threatening event occurs; and
WHEREAS, Paige Elizabeth Keely's untimely passing inspired her
mother, Gina Keely, and family to establish The Paige Elizabeth Keely
Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising awareness
about brain AVMs, aneurysms, and other neurological conditions, funding
critical research for early detection, and supporting affected families;
and
WHEREAS, The Foundation has partnered with leading institutions such
as Stony Brook Medicine's Mofakham-Mikell Laboratory to advance
groundbreaking research on non-invasive imaging and early detection
methods that could prevent future tragedies like Paige Elizabeth
Keely's; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing May 24th - Paige's birthday - as Paige
Elizabeth Keely Day provides an opportunity to honor her short but
impactful life, promote awareness of AVMs and related conditions,
encourage screening and education, and highlight the importance of
medical research and community support for rare neurological disorders;
and
WHEREAS, Recognizing Paige Elizabeth Keely Day will help educate New
Yorkers about the signs, risks, and potential for early intervention in
brain AVMs, while celebrating the resilience of families turning
personal loss into lifesaving advocacy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize May 24, 2026, as Paige Elizabeth Keely Day in the State of New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gina Keely and The Paige Elizabeth Keely Foundation.
