Senate Resolution No. 2119

        COMMENDING Georgia Jones, upon the occasion of her
        designation  as  recipient  of  the 2026 Lake Placid
        Community Day Distinguished Adult Volunteer  of  the
        Year Award
 
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the  State  of
New  York  who  volunteer  their  time  and  energies  in service to the
community; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud  to  commend  Georgia
Jones,  upon  the  occasion  of her designation as recipient of the 2026
Lake Placid Community Day Distinguished  Adult  Volunteer  of  the  Year
Award  to  be  celebrated  on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Community Day
Celebration in Lake Placid, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Lake Placid Community  Day  is  an  annual  event  that
celebrates the hard work of the community volunteers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In addition to the announcement of the Distinguished Adult
and Youth Volunteers of the Year, the annual Community Day event is also
intended to promote the many volunteer opportunities  available  in  the
region  to current and new residents and to both continue and foster the
volunteer spirit; and
 
  WHEREAS, A long-time resident of Lake Placid, over 50 years, Georgia
Jones has served as president of the Lake Placid Ski  Club  for  several
years,  held  a  seat on the Eastern Ski Jumping Committee, was actively
involved in the ski jumping  program  in  Lake  Placid,  served  on  the
Mountain  House/National  Sports  Academy  Board for 23 years, and spent
more than 20 years as a Whiteface Mt. Volunteer Ski Patroller; and
 
  WHEREAS, Georgia Jones was a New York State EMT, a member of the ski
patrol for the 1980 Olympics, served on the board  of  the  Lake  Placid
Olympic  Museum  for  4  years,  is  a  current Board member of the Lake
Placid/North Elba Historical Society,  and  has  been  a  Board  member,
President  and  currently  a  member  of  the Advisory Board of the Lake
Placid Sinfonietta which has benefited from  her  efforts  for  over  30
years; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  member  of the Dark Skies Committee, a sub-committee of
the Lake Placid/North Elba  Development  Commission,  for  three  years,
Georgia  Jones has been promoting Dark Skies for several years; she also
served on the Lake Placid/North Elba Planning  Board,  the  Placid  Lake
Foundation and the North Elba Land Trust Board; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Georgia Jones's professionalism, civic duty, and community
activities have benefited countless individuals and families  throughout
the  years  of her dedicated community service and her efforts have left
an indelible mark that will be a positive influence for  generations  to
come; and
 
  WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly,  people  who  volunteer  their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Georgia  Jones's continued passion for volunteering stands
as a shining example of  dedication  and  commitment  to  community  and
service; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Georgia Jones, upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2026 Lake Placid Community Day Distinguished Adult  Volunteer  of
the Year Award; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Georgia Jones.
