Senate Resolution No. 2123

        COMMEMORATING  the  75th Anniversary of the Rotary
        Club of Sherburne, New York
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
celebrate significant milestones of organizations that contribute to the
well-being  of  their  communities and make a lasting impact on society;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Rotary Club  of  Sherburne,  New
York, a momentous occasion for this exemplary organization; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Rotary  International  was founded in 1905, by Paul Harris
and a group of associates; it is a  world  fellowship  of  business  and
professional   people   dedicated   to   providing   community  service,
encouraging high vocational standards and  building  international  good
will; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal
of service as a basis  of  worthy  enterprise  and,  in  particular,  to
encourage  and foster: the development of acquaintance as an opportunity
for service; high ethical standards in  business  and  professions;  the
recognition  of  the  worthiness  of  all  useful  occupations;  and the
dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation  as  an  opportunity  to  serve
society;  the  application  of  the  ideal of service in each Rotarian's
personal, business, and community life; the advancement of international
understanding,  goodwill,  and  peace  through  a  world  fellowship  of
business and professional persons united in the ideal of service; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The Sherburne Rotary Club was organized on March 30, 1951,
by a group of seventeen Sherburne Businessmen and the Club was sponsored
by the New Berlin Rotary Club under the presidency of  James  Honeywell;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  first  meeting  was  held  on  April  5, 1951, at the
Sherburne Inn where 29 charter members made  an  application  to  Rotary
International  for  an  Official  Charter;  Charter 7774 was granted and
became effective on June 12, 1951,  though  the  Sherburne  Rotary  Club
banner states May 9, 1951, as the charter date; and
 
  WHEREAS,  One  of  the  first  projects  undertaken by the Sherburne
Rotary Club was the development  of  the  community  swimming  pool  and
bathhouse  facilities  followed  by  the organization of a Little League
baseball program; these endeavors still are very important to  the  life
of Sherburne; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Over  the  years,  the  Sherburne  Rotary Club has created
programs that have served the  youth  of  the  community  including  the
eyeglasses  and clothing fund for disadvantaged children, a student loan
fund to aid local students with  college  expenses  and  a  program  for
exchange students; and
 
  WHEREAS,  An  ice-skating rink was developed and in recent years the
Sherburne Rotary Club has built a picnic pavilion at Paddleford Park  to
further  the  enjoyment  of  those  using the pool or attending a Little
League game; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Sherburne  Rotary Club has been particularly proud of
the Rogers Center, a  conservation  education  center,  which  has  been
called  "the  jewel  in  the  crown  of  New  York State's Department of
Conservation,"; it was an idea which was encouraged and developed by the
Club; and
 
  WHEREAS, Through the  tireless  efforts  of  the  current  officers:
President  Sandy  Sanger,  President-Elect  Dee Weaver, Secretary Brenda
Crandall, Treasurer Angela Jones, and Past  President  Dee  Weaver;  the
Board  of  Directors,  and  dedicated  members,  past  and  present, The
Sherburne Rotary Club has  stood  as  a  shining  example  of  community
enrichment and service; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During  the 75 years of its proud and dynamic history, the
Sherburne Rotary Club has exemplified the spirit of  the  Rotary  motto,
"Service  Above  Self",  through  the  many  projects  and events it has
sponsored which enhance the quality of life in the community; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Sherburne Rotary Club is an eminent  representative  of
Rotary's ideals of service and fellowship; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Rotary Club  of  Sherburne,  New
York,  and  to  commend  its members for their remarkable service to the
community and the greater good; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the Rotary Club of Sherburne.
