CONGRATULATING Shannon Weir Beisler upon the
occasion of her induction into the 2026 SUNY Oneonta
Athletics Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Shannon Weir Beisler upon the occasion of her induction
into the 2026 SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame; she will be honored
on Saturday, June 6, 2026, as part of Alumni Weekend; and
WHEREAS, From the start of the 2005-2006 women's basketball season,
Shannon Weir Beisler became known as one of the all-time best players in
the program's history; as a rookie, she led her team in scoring and
rebounding while helping the Red Dragons attain their first and only
ECAC championship; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Weir Beisler averaged 15 points and eight rebounds,
including 15 points and 11 boards in the championship game against
Elmira; for her athletic prowess, she was honored with an All-Conference
selection and Rookie of the Year for both SUNYAC and NYSWCAA; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, Shannon Weir Beisler received the Dr. Fred
Puritz Rookie of the Year Award in 2006; and
WHEREAS, During her career, Shannon Weir Beisler earned
All-Conference honors one more time, and she led her team in scoring
during her senior year; she was instrumental in leading Oneonta into the
semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament twice during her four years in high
school; and
WHEREAS, Residing in Maryland and Oneonta and attending school in
Milford, Shannon Weir Beisler scored 1,130 points during her career,
making her one of only eight women to surpass the mark; this placed her
fifth on the all-time scoring list; at the time of her graduation, she
was only the second player in the program's history to score 1,000
points and collect 500 rebounds; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Shannon Weir Beisler continues as the women's
basketball program's career leader in free throws (309) and second for
her career free throws with an average of 79.4; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Shannon Weir Beisler earned a bachelor's degree in
elementary education; four years later, she obtained her master's degree
in mathematics from Western Governors University; and
WHEREAS, From 2012-2022, Shannon Weir Beisler was an elementary
school teacher in Schenevus and Milford; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Shannon Weir Beisler upon the occasion of her induction
into the 2026 SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shannon Weir Beisler.
