CONGRATULATING William McLean upon the occasion of
receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the
most prestigious of Scouting honors, on June 21,
2026
WHEREAS, William McLean, through his diligence and rigorous efforts,
has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle Scout;
the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026,
at Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Manhasset, New York; and
WHEREAS, William McLean is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 71,
Plandome, New York; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved its greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain its glory; and
WHEREAS, Scouts BSA and its members are dedicated to the development
of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned
by approximately five percent of all Scouts, is the distinguished rank
of Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting
for many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all
the necessary achievements, including completion of a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed, and executed; and
WHEREAS, William McLean began his Scouting journey with Troop 71 in
2018 following his years as a member of Cub Scout Pack 3, where he first
developed the values of leadership, service, and responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his years in Scouting, William McLean
consistently served as a patient and dutiful role model for younger
Scouts and gradually evolved into a motivated and respected leader
within Troop 71; and
WHEREAS, William McLean created many meaningful experiences through
Scouting, including participating in the cowboy shoot at Schiff Scout
Reservation, weekend outings at Harriman State Park, and late-night
campfire conversations during summer camp at Onteora Scout Reservation;
and
WHEREAS, William McLean faithfully served Troop 71 in the leadership
positions of Patrol Leader and Instructor during the final two years of
his time with the Troop, demonstrating dedication, mentorship, and
commitment to his fellow Scouts; and
WHEREAS, William McLean earned the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout
on November 25, 2025, in recognition of his perseverance, leadership,
and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, For his Eagle Scout Service Project, William McLean
organized and led the creation of a long-term garden at Manhasset
Congregational Church Nursery School, revitalizing a neglected area of
an important community center and place of learning; and
WHEREAS, Funded through a garage sale and community donations,
William McLean's Eagle Scout project involved multiple stages of
weeding, planting, mulching, and maintenance, and was completed with the
assistance of more than two dozen Scouts, parents, and family members;
and
WHEREAS, During his time at Manhasset High School, William McLean
excelled academically through numerous Honors and Advanced Placement
courses while serving as a dedicated member of the rowing team; and
WHEREAS, William McLean is currently completing his freshman year at
Hamilton College, where he is presently an undecided major and an active
member of the Brothers organization on campus; he looks forward to
carrying the values of perseverance, leadership, and service instilled
in him through Scouting into all of his future endeavors; and
WHEREAS, William McLean's perseverance in rising through the ranks
to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master difficult
tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully
equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor William McLean on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to William McLean.
