CONGRATULATING Thomas Maichin upon the occasion of
receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the
most prestigious of Scouting honors, on June 21,
2026
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin, through his diligence and rigorous efforts,
has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle Scout;
the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026,
at Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Manhasset, New York; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 71,
Plandome, New York; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved its greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain its glory; and
WHEREAS, Scouts BSA and its members are dedicated to the development
of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned
by approximately five percent of all Scouts, is the distinguished rank
of Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting
for many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all
the necessary achievements, including completion of a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed, and executed; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin began his Scouting journey as a Tiger Scout
in Cub Scout Pack 3, where he earned the Arrow of Light, Cub Scouting's
highest honor, before crossing over to Troop 71; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his years in Scouting, Thomas Maichin assumed
leadership roles including Troop Guide, Assistant Patrol Leader, and
Patrol Leader, developing leadership skills and strong friendships with
his fellow Scouts; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin created many meaningful experiences through
Scouting, including time spent at Onteora Scout Reservation and Schiff
Scout Reservation; and
WHEREAS, For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Thomas Maichin
planned, organized, and led the creation of 30 diabetic care kits for
newly diagnosed patients at NYU Langone Health; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by his own experience living with Type 1 Diabetes,
Thomas Maichin coordinated fundraising efforts, sourced and assembled
essential medical and comfort supplies, and worked directly with
healthcare professionals to ensure each care kit would provide
meaningful support to patients and their families during the early
stages of diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, Through his Eagle Scout Service Project, Thomas Maichin not
only provided practical resources to newly diagnosed patients, but also
offered encouragement and a sense of community to individuals and
families navigating the challenges of a new diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding efforts and service,
Thomas Maichin will be honored as the Youth Achievement Award recipient
at NYU's Bite of Hope program in November, benefiting the Pediatric
Diabetes Program; and
WHEREAS, As part of his broader commitment to service, Thomas
Maichin organized a fundraiser benefiting a local veteran food bank and
arranged for representatives to speak with his Troop in order to raise
awareness and support for veterans in need; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin further enriched the educational experiences
of his fellow Scouts by inviting his engineering teacher, Mr. Carr, an
Eagle Scout himself, from Manhasset High School to speak to Troop 71 and
present an engineering-focused discussion; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin is currently a junior at Manhasset High
School, where he is an active member of the Engineering Club and Key
Club; he also participates in the ACES Mentor Program of Greater New
York, exploring careers in architecture, construction, and engineering;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his academic and service achievements,
Thomas Maichin is in his second year working as a lifeguard, competes on
the varsity baseball team and a competitive travel baseball team, and
enjoys snowboarding in his free time; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Maichin's perseverance in rising through the ranks
to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master difficult
tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully
equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Thomas Maichin on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thomas Maichin.
