CONGRATULATING Erin Peskin upon the occasion of
being selected as a National Delegate to the 2022
Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George
Mason University
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Erin Peskin upon the occasion of being selected as a
National Delegate to the 2022 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment
at George Mason University; and
WHEREAS, Erin Peskin, a junior at Longwood High School, demonstrated
a passion for science and the environment in her freshman biology class
and was invited by her teacher to join the Environmental Club in her
sophomore year; she was introduced to Students For Climate Action
(S4CA), an organization led by students who advocate for change in
policies that affect climate change; currently, she is the lead
representative for Longwood High School in S4CA and has been part of
writing a bill for that cause; and
WHEREAS, Erin Peskin was voted by her peers to become President of
the Environmental Club; in this capacity, she manages approximately 40
students who are involved in many projects such as relocating an Osprey
nest on campus, installing water bottle refilling stations on campus,
raising trout in the classroom, and developing fundraisers for the club
and much more; and
WHEREAS, With her ambition and drive, Erin Peskin was accepted into
the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment (WHYSE) program at George
Mason University in Washington D.C.; this summer, she will be working
with other students from all over the country, engaging in activities
that promote careers in environmental science, conservation, policy, law
or engineering, as well as connecting with prominent leaders and experts
in these fields; and
WHEREAS, The program will be held at George Mason University's
state-of-the-art campus and will encourage and inspire young leaders who
desire a unique experience focused on successful careers in this dynamic
industry; and
WHEREAS, George Mason University and partners National Geographic
and the National Zoo will welcome the nation's young scholars to
Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, The Washington Youth Summit on the Environment offers
aspiring environmentalists and student leaders an unparalleled
experience with distinguished faculty, guest speakers, and direct access
to elite D.C. practitioners; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional young lady is the first student in the
history of Longwood High School to have been selected for this
prestigious opportunity; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Erin Peskin upon the occasion of being selected as a
National Delegate to the 2022 Washington Youth Summit on the
Environment, and best wishes for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Erin Peskin.
