HONORING Richard DiCaprio upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District
Athletic Hall of Fame on September 14, 2026
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those outstanding athletes who inspired and brought pride
to their school and community by achieving outstanding success in
competition, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Richard DiCaprio upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady
City School District Athletic Hall of Fame at its 2026 Schenectady City
School District Athletic Hall of Fame & Reunion Dinner on Monday,
September 14, 2026, at the Event Center at Rivers Casino & Resort,
Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Rit" DiCaprio played four years of varsity
football at Mont Pleasant High School, where his teams won three Class
"A" League championships, and in 1967, his team boasted an undefeated
record and a no. 1 ranking in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Following an outstanding high school football career,
Richard "Rit" DiCaprio played defensive end and on special teams at the
University of Maryland where he earned two varsity letters (freshmen
were ineligible to play varsity and he was injured as a sophomore); and
WHEREAS, As a junior, DiCaprio's Maryland team finished 8-4 (5-1 in
the ACC) garnering a top 20 national ranking, and an appearance in the
Peach Bowl; and
WHEREAS, The following year (1974), Richard "Rit" DiCaprio 's
Maryland team won the Atlantic Coast Conference title (6-0 conference
record), finishing with an overall record of 8-4, and was ranked 13th in
the nation outscoring their opponents 316-104; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Rit" DiCaprio later played semi-pro football for
the Albany Metro Mallers, and served as an assistant football coach at
Schenectady High School from 1991 to 1999; and
WHEREAS, Recognized by his peers, Richard "Rit" DiCaprio is also a
member of Capital Region Football Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard DiCaprio upon the occasion of his induction into the
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame on September 14,
2026; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard DiCaprio.
