MOURNING the death of Dominick J. Romano,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano of Brewster, New York, died on Sunday,
April 12, 2026, at the age of 96; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 9, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late
Dominique and Virginia (Castellano) Romano, Dominick J. Romano graduated
from Brooklyn Technical High School and Polytechnic University with a
bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; and
WHEREAS, In September 1947 Dominick J. Romano joined the United
States Navy Reserves, serving during the Korean War and was honorably
discharged in March 1959; and
WHEREAS, On August 17, 1957, Dominick J. Romano married Margaret
"Peggy" Shea and they would remain married for 62 glorious years; they
lived in Brooklyn before moving to Brewster, New York in 1959, where
they became parishioners of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church and remained
active in the parish and community for over 60 years; and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, With a career of building highly productive teams, Dominick
J. Romano had a variety of roles highlighted by managing an electrical
engineering department at Nestle, Knights of Columbus insurance agent,
and small business owner; and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Committed to giving his time to the community, Dominick J.
Romano was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Grand
Knight & District Deputy, St. Lawrence Council, St. Lawrence O'Toole
Church Council & Brewster School System Board Member, Little League
baseball coach, Cemetery Inventory, SCORE, Cooperative Extension, and
Putnam Hospital Building Committee; and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano loved spending time with his beloved
wife Peggy, his brothers, sister and in-laws, collecting stamps,
bowling, golfing, fishing, music, traveling, entertainment, and most of
all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano was a lifelong learner, whether diving
into a thought-provoking book, exploring a new idea or engaging in
lively conversation, he found joy in learning and sharing knowledge with
others; a natural storyteller, he had a remarkable ability to bring
experiences to life infusing his zest for life into everything he did;
and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano's life was marked by generosity,
patience, and an enduring love for his family and community; and
WHEREAS, Dominick J. Romano is predeceased by his beloved wife
Peggy; his two brothers; and his sister; he is survived by his five
children, Paul Romano and his wife Tracy, John Romano, Thomas Romano and
his wife Karen, Ann Romano, and Mary Zoeller and her husband Thomas; his
ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dominick J. Romano leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dominick J. Romano, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dominick J. Romano.
