Assembly Resolution No. 1601

         COMMEMORATING  the  210th Anniversary of the Town
        of Winfield, New York
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize  and
commend  those  municipalities  whose rich history, enduring spirit, and
commitment to their residents  have  contributed  to  the  strength  and
vitality of the State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  210th  Anniversary  of  the Town of Winfield, Herkimer
County, New York, founded in 1816; and
 
  WHEREAS, Located in the scenic Mohawk Valley region of  Central  New
York,  the  Town  of Winfield is bordered by the Towns of Litchfield and
Columbia in Herkimer County, the Town of Bridgewater in  Oneida  County,
and   the   Town  of  Plainfield  in  Otsego  County,  and  is  situated
approximately 15 miles south of the City of Utica; and
 
  WHEREAS, For more than two  centuries,  the  Town  of  Winfield  has
served  as  a  welcoming  and  vibrant  community  whose  residents have
contributed to the agricultural, economic, and cultural  development  of
the region; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Agriculture  has  long  been  the  backbone  of  the local
economy, with family farms and dairy operations  continuing  to  play  a
vital  role  in preserving the Town's rural character and supporting New
York State's agricultural heritage; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Village of West  Winfield,  incorporated  in  1898  and
located  within the Town of Winfield, serves as a center of commerce and
community life,  featuring  local  businesses,  financial  institutions,
houses  of  worship,  emergency  services,  and  a New York State Police
substation; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Town of Winfield is home to dedicated public  servants,
educators,  business  owners,  farmers,  first responders, and community
volunteers whose efforts  have  helped  shape  a  strong  and  resilient
community for generations; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Educational  opportunities  are provided through the Mount
Markham  Central  School  District,  which  serves  approximately  1,100
students  and  remains  one  of  the  area's  largest employers and most
important institutions; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Town of Winfield Memorial Park provides  residents  and
visitors with recreational opportunities and community gathering spaces,
including  athletic  fields, picnic facilities, and ongoing improvements
such as a new playground and nature trail; and
 
  WHEREAS, Demonstrating its commitment to responsible stewardship and
sustainability, the Town of Winfield has recently been recognized  as  a
 
Clean  Energy  Community,  further  positioning  itself for a bright and
prosperous future; and
 
  WHEREAS, As the Town of Winfield commemorates its 210th Anniversary,
it  is fitting to recognize this anniversary in the 250th Anniversary of
our  Great  Nation,  the  remarkable  legacy  of  its  residents,  whose
dedication,  perseverance,  and civic pride have sustained the community
for  generations  and  continue  to  guide  its  future  success;   now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 210th Anniversary of the Town of Winfield and  to  honor
its  rich  history,  proud traditions, and enduring contributions to the
State of New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to  the  officials and residents of the Town of Winfield in
recognition of this historic occasion.
