MOURNING and acknowledging September 11, 2026, as
the 25th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks on the United States
WHEREAS, September 11, 2026, marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of
the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, one of the darkest days in
the history of the United States, when 2,977 innocent people were killed
in coordinated attacks against our Nation; and
WHEREAS, At 8:46 A.M. on September 11, 2026, our Nation will pause
to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of that tragic day, to mourn
those whose lives were taken, and to honor the extraordinary courage and
sacrifice demonstrated by countless first responders, public servants,
and ordinary citizens; and
WHEREAS, Twenty-five years later, the people of the United States
continue to remember September 11, 2001, with solemnity and reverence,
and remain united in the enduring promise that the lives lost that day
shall never be forgotten; and
WHEREAS, In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, Americans across
the Nation came together in an unprecedented spirit of unity,
compassion, and resolve, standing together against terrorism and
demonstrating the strength and resilience of the American people; and
WHEREAS, We honor the thousands of firefighters, police officers,
emergency medical personnel, and other first responders who courageously
rushed toward the World Trade Center as others fled, knowingly placing
their own lives in grave danger in an extraordinary effort to save
others; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 400 firefighters, police officers, emergency medical
personnel, and other first responders lost their lives on September 11,
2001, making the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fellow
Americans; and
WHEREAS, We honor the thousands of innocent men, women, and children
who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, including many who,
according to firsthand accounts, remained behind to assist and guide
others to safety rather than save themselves; and
WHEREAS, We honor the men and women who worked at the Pentagon and
those serving our Nation in the United States Department of Defense who
lost their lives in the terrorist attack upon our Nation's military
headquarters; and
WHEREAS, We honor the passengers and crew members aboard United
Airlines Flight 93, who, upon learning that their aircraft had been
hijacked and intended for use as a weapon against another target,
courageously resisted the terrorists, ultimately preventing the aircraft
from reaching its intended target and saving countless additional lives;
and
WHEREAS, We honor the first responders, recovery workers,
volunteers, and other brave individuals who worked for months at Ground
Zero, searching through the immense rubble in the hope of finding
survivors and recovering the remains of those who perished; and
WHEREAS, We mourn alongside the families, friends, colleagues, and
loved ones of the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist
attacks, and we reaffirm that their loved ones, their sacrifices, and
their stories remain forever in the hearts and memories of the American
people; and
WHEREAS, One World Trade Center now stands as a powerful symbol of
the resilience, determination, and enduring spirit of the American
people, while Lower Manhattan, where the World Trade Center once stood,
has emerged as a thriving and vibrant community; and
WHEREAS, We remain eternally grateful to the valiant men and women
of the United States Armed Forces, including those who have fallen,
those who have been wounded, and those who continue to serve and combat
terrorism around the world in defense of our Nation and its people; and
WHEREAS, The courage and sacrifice of those who responded to the
attacks of September 11, 2001, and those who have served our Nation in
the years since, represent the highest ideals of service, duty, courage,
and patriotism; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
acknowledge the twenty-fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of
September 11, 2001; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body honor the memory of the 2,977
innocent people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and extend
its deepest sympathy to their families, friends, and loved ones; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body recognize and honor the
extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, police
officers, emergency medical personnel, military personnel, recovery
workers, volunteers, passengers, crew members, and civilians who
responded to the attacks and worked to save lives; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body express its enduring gratitude
to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have served,
sacrificed, and continue to serve in defense of the United States and in
the fight against terrorism; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body solemnly reaffirms that the
lives lost on September 11, 2001, shall never be forgotten and that the
lessons of that day shall continue to inspire unity, courage, service,
and vigilance.
