COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the Urban
League of Rochester
WHEREAS, A great state is only as great as those individuals and
organizations who perform exemplary service on behalf of their
community, whether through unique achievement in professional or other
endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Legislative Body to commemorate
the 60th Anniversary of the Urban League of Rochester; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Rochester has been a beacon of equity
and opportunity in the Rochester community for decades, helping
marginalized peoples to attain economic freedom, better health, and
quality housing; and
WHEREAS, This impactful organization was founded in the aftermath of
racial unrest and riots in the community, and has paved the way for
people of color to combat similar injustices now and in the near future;
and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Rochester has provided transformative
growth in an area plagued by racial inequities, economic disparities,
systemic disadvantages, allowing African Americans, Latinos, the
impoverished, and other marginalized communities to succeed in a place
that for so long tried to keep them down; and
WHEREAS, Creating lasting and noteworthy change is a cause worth
fighting for; the Urban League of Rochester has stood strong in its
commitment to ensure that all people of color in the Rochester area have
a place dedicated to furthering their equality and opportunities for
success since 1965; and
WHEREAS, Generations of Rochesterians have been a part of the Urban
League family, and many more in the future will utilize their services
to learn about the past and build upon the future; and
WHEREAS, It is the belief of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and
commend them for the edification and emulation of others; and
WHEREAS, Such service, which is truly the heart of the community and
the State, so often goes unrecognized and unheralded; now therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Urban League of Rochester; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Urban League of Rochester.
