CONGRATULATING Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh
Allen upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2024 AP NFL Most Valuable Player
Award, one of the NFL's highest honors
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
individuals of rare and exceptional athletic achievement, acknowledging
their profound and lasting impacts in their sport and on the citizenry
of this great New York State for years to come; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2024 AP NFL Most Valuable Player
Award, one of the NFL's highest honors, at the completion of his seventh
career season; and
WHEREAS, Achieving such a high honor in competitive sports takes
years of discipline, tireless conditioning, and an unwavering desire to
win; Josh Allen has proven himself to be an exemplary athlete whose
perseverance and commitment to excellence have earned him this coveted
award; and
WHEREAS, Josh Allen's myriad unprecedented achievements are
reflective of his continued performance at the highest standards of
excellence and thereby cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, With 27 first-place votes and a total of 383 points, Josh
Allen became the AP NFL Most Valuable Player of the year, beating out
staunch competitors to secure the prestigious award for his first time;
and
WHEREAS, Josh Allen finished his 2024 regular season with 3,731
passing yards and 531 rushing yards for an impressive total of 4,262
total yards; he totaled 41 touchdowns - 28 passing, 12 rushing, and one
receiving, becoming the only player in NFL history with over 25 passing
touchdowns, over 10 rushing touchdowns, and a receiving score in a
season; and
WHEREAS, Further cementing his name in history, Josh Allen had the
lowest percentage of plays that resulted in either a sack, fumble, or
interception in a single season (4.17%) since 1970; and
WHEREAS, At the end of this season, Josh Allen became one of only
two players in NFL history with 40+ offensive touchdowns in at least
five career seasons; on top of this monumental achievement, the Bills
quarterback is the first in NFL history to secure 40+ touchdowns in five
consecutive seasons; and
WHEREAS, A further testament to his unprecedented talent, Josh Allen
also became the first quarterback in NFL history with six or more
rushing touchdowns in seven consecutive seasons; he is also now the only
quarterback in the NFL to have ever scored a passing, rushing, and
receiving touchdown in a single game; and
WHEREAS, Josh Allen's achievements this season are vast and notable;
he is now the first quarterback in NFL history to record multiple
passing touchdowns, multiple rushing touchdowns, 350+ passing yards, and
60+ rushing yards in the same game; he is also the first NFL player of
all time with at least two touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns
in consecutive games, and is the first player of all time with three
such games in one season; and
WHEREAS, During his seventh career season in the NFL, Josh Allen
became the first player in the league's history to score three or more
passing touchdowns and three or more rushing touchdowns in the same
game; and
WHEREAS, As a captain of his team, Josh Allen helped guide the Bills
to one of the best seasons in franchise history, with an overall record
of 13-4: the beloved New York team also won the AFC East by Week 13,
which marked the earliest a team had won their division since 2009; and
WHEREAS, Further, under Josh Allen's steady and respected
leadership, the Buffalo Bills made history as a team this season; the
Bills set franchise records for touchdowns (63) and points scored (509),
tied an NFL record of 30+ points in eight consecutive games, went
undefeated at home for the third time in team history and for the first
time since 1990, and, among many other worthy accomplishments, are the
first NFL team in history to beat two 14-win teams in the regular
season, with Josh Allen totaling 747 yards, six touchdowns, and zero
sacks in those pivotal games; and
WHEREAS, For his historic contributions to the sport of football,
his renowned passion and support for charitable causes, and for proudly
representing New York State in his notable achievements and storied
Buffalo Bills career, Josh Allen is justly deserving of the praise of
this Legislative Body and of the citizenry of our beloved Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
applaud the achievements of outstanding professional athletes whose
dedication and determination have brought honor to their team, their
community, and the entire State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2024 AP NFL Most Valuable Player
Award, one of the NFL's highest honors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen.
