Senate Resolution No. 427

        MOURNING  the death of Alice Roker, beloved public
        servant and devoted mother and grandmother
 
  WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to  better
the  quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on  the  lives  of  its  residents;  Alice  Roker  was  one  such
individual; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  with  profound  sorrow  and  deep regret that this
Legislative  Body  records  the  passing  of  Alice  Roker,  noting  the
significance of her purposeful life and accomplishments; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Alice Roker, a trailblazing figure and cherished member of
the Yorktown Heights community, died on February 10, 2025, at the age of
77; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born on July  11,  1947,  in  New  York,  New  York,  Alice
Elizabeth  Roker  lived  a  life  marked  by  professionalism, community
service, and an unwavering dedication to her loved ones; and
 
  WHEREAS, A graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor of  Arts  degree,  Alice
Roker  paved  her  way as a journalist where her excellence in reporting
was recognized with an Emmy and a  New  York  Broadcaster's  Association
award  during  her  time  at  WNBC;  her  commitment to truth and public
service led her to a distinguished career in local government; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 1989, Alice Roker was  elected  as  the  Town  Clerk  of
Yorktown  Heights, a position she held with honor and diligence for many
years; her role as Town Historian further showcased  her  love  for  the
community and her desire to preserve its rich heritage; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Most  notably,  she  became  the first African American in
Yorktown's history to sit on the town government,  paving  the  way  for
future generations to follow in her footsteps; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Alice   Roker's  life  was  not  solely  defined  by  her
professional achievements but also by her  personal  interests  and  the
love she bestowed upon her family; she was an avid gardener, finding joy
in   the   tranquility   of  nurturing  growth  and  beauty  within  her
surroundings; and
 
  WHEREAS, Above all, Alice Roker cherished the time  she  spent  with
her  family  and friends, sharing in laughter and creating memories that
would last a lifetime; and
 
  WHEREAS, Those who knew Alice would describe her  as  loving,  wise,
and  kind  -  words that only begin to touch on the incredible woman she
was; her guidance and wisdom were  sought  by  many,  and  her  kindness
touched the lives of countless individuals in her community; and
 
  WHEREAS, Leaving behind a legacy of love and leadership, Alice Roker
is survived by her son, Gregory Bell; her daughter, Courtney Roker Laga;
 
her  son in-law, Wesley Laga; and her granddaughter, Sky Clara, who will
carry forward her spirit of compassion and fortitude;  her  presence  in
their  lives was a source of endless joy and inspiration, and her memory
will continue to be a guiding light for them and all who knew her; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Alice  Roker's  infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through her family's vivid and happy memories; her insight  and
strength  will  forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to all
who were fortunate to know and love such an incredible woman;  she  will
be  deeply  missed  and  truly  merits  the  grateful  tribute  of  this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
mourn the passing of Alice Roker, and to express its deepest condolences
to her family; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Alice Roker.
