MOURNING the death of Christopher Katz, dedicated
U.S. Capitol Police Officer Recruit and cherished
member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to mourn
the death of Christopher Katz, dedicated U.S. Capitol Police Officer
Recruit and cherished member of his community; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Katz of Crompond, New York, died on Saturday,
February 1, 2025, at the age of 22; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Katz distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community, State, and Nation; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Walter Panas High School, Christopher
Katz joined the Army Reserve and excelled in Military Intelligence at
Horsham before transitioning to the Military Police Unit in Maryland;
while attending Temple University, he took on the rigorous challenge of
ROTC, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant while completing his
criminal justice degree on time despite facing injuries along the way;
and
WHEREAS, Christopher Katz, known among his classmates as USCP ROC
253, had deep respect for the critical role of protecting the Nation's
elected officials and institutions of democracy and lived a life full of
dedication, resilience, honor, courage, love, and kindness; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Katz's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Katz's love for baseball, football, MMA, music,
anime, and the outdoors was only surpassed by his devotion to family and
friends; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Katz is survived by his parents, Lillian and
Tom, and his brother, Mikey; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated law enforcement officers who unselfishly devote their lives to
the preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and
due full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Christopher Katz leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Christopher Katz, dedicated U.S. Capitol Police
Officer Recruit and cherished member of this community; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Christopher Katz.
