BY: Senator HOYLMAN-SIGAL

COMMEMORATING the 125th Anniversary of the New
        York International Auto Show

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to recognize and commemorate
institutions, events, and achievements that have contributed
significantly to the economic vitality, cultural richness, and
industrial progress of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting to acknowledge the enduring legacy and
milestone anniversary of the New York International Auto Show, which
celebrates its 125th consecutive year in 2025 at the Jacob K. Javits
Convention Center in the City and State of New York; and

WHEREAS, The New York International Auto Show first opened its doors
on November 3, 1900, at the original Madison Square Garden, with just 34
automakers displaying 160 vehicles to a fascinated public at a time when
there were more horses than cars on America's roads; and

WHEREAS, Over the past century and a quarter, the Auto Show has
grown into the oldest and largest attended automotive exhibition in
North America, drawing more than a million visitors annually, and
showcasing new technologies, concepts, and models that shape the future
of personal and commercial transportation; and

WHEREAS, From the earliest gasoline-powered horseless carriages to
today's cutting-edge electric vehicles and concept cars, the show has
reflected-and often anticipated-developments that have transformed the
way people live, work, and move; and

WHEREAS, The show has long been a fixture in New York's economy,
generating substantial tourism, supporting jobs in hospitality,
transportation, and marketing, and positioning New York as a global
center of innovation in automotive technology; and

WHEREAS, The exhibition has provided a premier platform for public
education, charitable fundraising, industry networking, and the debut of
vehicles that have captured the imagination of generations, including
the Ford Mustang, Jaguar E-Type, Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, and many
others; and

WHEREAS, The move to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in 1987
enabled the show to double in size and enhance its influence as a major
international automotive and consumer event, while anchoring the Javits
Center as a top-tier venue for exhibitions in the heart of Manhattan's
West Side; and

WHEREAS, In recent decades, the New York International Auto Show has
played a central role in promoting clean transportation, debuting
alternative-fuel and electric vehicles, supporting EV infrastructure
awareness, and hosting test tracks and educational programs aimed at
accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility; and

WHEREAS, The show has also served as the host of the World Car
Awards since 2006, further solidifying its position as a venue where
global recognition, competition, and innovation intersect each year; and

WHEREAS, On the occasion of its 125th anniversary, the New York
International Auto Show continues to stand as a dynamic celebration of
design, technology, commerce, and community-bringing together
automakers, consumers, press, and policymakers from  around  the  globe;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the New York International Auto
Show and recognize its historical and ongoing contributions to New York

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
