Senate Resolution No. 804

        COMMENDING  Andrew  P.  Doro posthumously upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Andrew P.
Doro posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the  New
York State Senate; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, Andrew Peter Doro, affectionately known as Andy,  was  born
on  April  1,  1945, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Andrew Doro and
Anna (Hornacek) Doro; and
 
  WHEREAS, Andrew P. Doro courageously served his country as  a  First
Lieutenant  in  the United States Army, beginning his military career in
1965, serving as Executive  Officer  of  Basic  Training  at  Fort  Ord,
California,  and  later  being  deployed  to  Vietnam  in 1967, where he
demonstrated  exceptional  leadership  in  combat,   pacification,   and
intelligence operations; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During  his service in Vietnam, Andrew P. Doro was wounded
in battle and,  despite  his  injuries,  displayed  immense  bravery  by
exposing  himself in close combat to save his men, embodying the highest
ideals of duty, courage, and selflessness; and
 
  WHEREAS, Andrew P. Doro spent over a year and a half  recovering  in
an  Army  hospital,  a  period that ultimately led to a 100% disability,
underscoring his unwavering commitment to his country and comrades; and
 
  WHEREAS, For his heroic actions, Andrew P. Doro was awarded numerous
prestigious citations, including the Silver Star, Purple  Heart,  Combat
Infantryman  Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Service
Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal,  Overseas  Service
Bar,  and  Marksmanship  Medals,  further  exemplifying  his bravery and
dedication; and
 
  WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge from the military, Andrew
P.  Doro pursued higher education, earning advanced master's degrees  in
management,  education,  and  psychology from St. John's University, and
dedicated himself to improving the lives of others through his  work  in
the field of education; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Andrew  P. Doro held various roles in education, including
Psychologist, Vice Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel Services,  and
Executive   Director   of   Special  Education,  where  he  demonstrated
leadership and commitment to supporting students and educators; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  a  steadfast and unwavering commitment to supporting
veterans, Andrew P. Doro served on the Board of Directors for a  Veteran
Outreach Center and working as a crisis intervention group counselor for
veterans with PTSD; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Andrew  P. Doro was the proud founder and CEO of Millbrook
Support Services, Inc., a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small  Business
(SDVOSB),  which  became the fastest-growing healthcare staffing company
in the U.S. under his leadership, and now ranks as the number two SDVOSB
by GovWin Deltek; and
 
  WHEREAS, In addition to his professional accomplishments, Andrew  P.
Doro  was  an  avid  racquetball  player,  a passionate winemaker, and a
devoted member of his community, where  he  served  on  the  Village  of
Millbrook's   Zoning   Board   of   Appeals,   the  American  Legion  in
Stanfordville,  New  York,  the  Veterans  of  Foreign  Wars  (VFW)   in
Millbrook, New York, and the Millbrook Rod & Gun Club; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Andrew  P.  Doro  was a beloved husband, cherished father,
extraordinary grandfather, loving brother, uncle, friend,  and  fearless
leader,  but  above all, he was a devout Catholic whose faith guided him
through life's challenges and shaped his character as a man of integrity
and compassion; and
 
  WHEREAS, Andrew P. Doro died on April 11,  2024,  his  42nd  wedding
anniversary, surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of
service,  dedication, and compassion; he is survived by his devoted wife
of 42 years, Katherine (Manzi) Doro; his son, Peter  Felice  Manzi  Doro
(Jennifer);  two  grandchildren,  John Felice Manzi Doro and James Peter
Manzi Doro; his sisters, Mary Ann Pugliese (William), Diane  Hayes,  and
Alice  Doro; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends,
and is now reunited with his brother John P. Doro, his parents, and  his
fallen Army brothers; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  life  and legacy of Andrew Peter Doro will be forever
remembered and honored by all those who knew him, for his service to his
country, his contributions to his community, and his enduring commitment
to family, faith, and friendship; and
 
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must  recognize
that  no  greater  debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
Andrew  P.  Doro  demonstrated  his  love  for  his  country  and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be  recognized,  commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Andrew P. Doro posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the  highest  honor  bestowed  upon  an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Andrew P. Doro.
