MOURNING the death of Joseph J. Timpano,
distinguished citizen, public servant, and devoted
member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, A resident of New Hartford, New York, Joseph J. Timpano
died on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the age of 71; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Timpano distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Timpano was born in Utica, on February 10, 1955,
to the late Dominick and Kathleen (Bifano) Timpano; and
WHEREAS, A 1973 graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica,
Joseph J. Timpano excelled at sports; he was the quarterback of the
varsity football team, as well as a member of the varsity baseball and
basketball teams; and
WHEREAS, Seeing the value in education, Joseph J. Timpano attended
Bentley University in Boston, Massachusetts where he received his
Bachelor of Science in Accounting, then received his master's degree at
St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Timpano's storied career began at Deloitte &
Touche in New York City, where he received his Certified Public
Accountant license; in 1988, he returned to the Utica area to assume the
position of comptroller for the Town of New Hartford, and in 1996, he
became the deputy comptroller for Oneida County; and
WHEREAS, After two fulfilling years in the deputy comptroller role,
Joseph J. Timpano ran for the Oneida County comptroller position in 1988
and won, going on to run six consecutive uncontested terms, making him
the longest-serving Oneida County comptroller; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Timpano enjoyed playing golf, had a deep
admiration for music, and loved spending time with family and friends in
Sylvan Beach; he was also a devout fan of the New York Yankees and Green
Bay Packers; and
WHEREAS, With his deep compassion for others and his strong sense of
integrity, Joseph J. Timpano will be remembered as a generous friend who
possessed the ability to connect with many, always with an empathetic
heart; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Timpano's commitment to excellence and spirit of
humanity carried over into all fields of enterprise, including his
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Joseph J. Timpano is survived by his wife, Jill; his four
brothers, Gabe, Dominick, Michael, and Robert; three sisters-in-law,
Amy, Anne, and MaryJo; and many nieces and nephews: Katie, Madeline,
Dominick III, Eddie and Cierra, Billy, Michael and Amanda, Abbey, Blake,
Layla, Sophia, Dominick IV, Gianna, and Bennett; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joseph J. Timpano leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph J. Timpano, distinguished citizen, public
servant, and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Joseph J. Timpano.
