Assembly Resolution No. 1035

MOURNING the death of Major Sorffly Davius,
devoted husband and father, distinguished Army
National Guard officer, and dedicated member of the
New York City Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lives of service and commitment
to others leave a lasting legacy to their communities, their State, and
their Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body pauses to mourn the
untimely death of Major Sorffly Davius, a dedicated member of the United
States Army National Guard and a respected officer of the New York City
Police Department, who died on March 6, 2026, while serving his country
overseas; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Clarkstown, New York, Major Sorffly Davius
was serving his country at Camp Buehring in Kuwait while deployed with
the 42nd Infantry Division of the United States Army National Guard in
support of military operations in the region at the time of his death;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Major Sorffly Davius exemplified the
highest ideals of service, courage, and dedication, devoting himself to
protecting and serving others both at home and abroad; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Sorffly Davius joined the New York City Police
Department, where he was assigned to the 79th Precinct in the
Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, earning the respect of
colleagues and community members alike through his commitment to public
safety and community service; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role with the NYPD, Major Sorffly Davius
served with distinction in the United States Army National Guard, rising
to the rank of Major and embodying the proud tradition of the
citizen-soldier who balances civilian life with military duty in defense
of the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Prior to his deployment overseas, he served on Joint Task
Force Empire Shield, a critical National Guard mission responsible for
protecting some of New York State's most significant and high-profile
locations from potential threats; and
WHEREAS, The life and service of Major Sorffly Davius stands as a
powerful testament to the dedication and sacrifice of those who serve
simultaneously as members of the armed forces and as first responders in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Beyond his professional accomplishments, Major Sorffly
Davius was a devoted husband and father whose love and commitment to his
family were central to his life; and
WHEREAS, Major Sorffly Davius leaves behind a legacy of honor,
integrity, and selfless service that will long be remembered by his
family, friends, fellow service members, law enforcement colleagues, and
the citizens of New York State and the United States; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Major Sorffly Davius, recognizing his extraordinary
dedication to the service of his country, his state, and his community;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Major Sorffly Davius as an expression of
the deepest sympathy and respect of this Legislative Body and the people
of the State of New York.
