Assembly Resolution No. 1151

        COMMENDING  Firefighter  Edwin Sparks Sr. upon the
        occasion of his designation for special  recognition
        after  70  years of dedicated service to the Conesus
        Volunteer Fire Department
 
  WHEREAS, The volunteer firefighters of New York State  are  renowned
throughout the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in
the arduous field of fire protection and prevention; and
 
  WHEREAS, Firefighters unwaveringly serve our great State with pride,
valor,  and integrity; these respected volunteers are often the first to
respond to an emergency, whether the emergency is a fire, transportation
accident, natural disaster, act of terrorism, medical crisis,  or  spill
of hazardous materials; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Edwin
Sparks  Sr. upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 70 years of  dedicated  service  to  the  Conesus  Volunteer  Fire
Department,  to  be  celebrated  at  the  fire department banquet at the
Conesus American Legion on Saturday, May 9, 2026; and
 
  WHEREAS, Edwin Sparks Sr. was born on April 12, 1938, in  Rochester,
New  York;  he  graduated  from  Livonia  Central  School and joined the
Conesus Volunteer Fire Department in 1956 at the age of 18; and
 
  WHEREAS, Since joining the Conesus Volunteer Fire Department,  Edwin
Sparks  Sr.  has  served  in various capacities, including as fire chief
from 1972-1977 and again from 1982-1987; Edwin Sparks Sr. also served as
commissioner for 32 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Outside of the fire department, Edwin Sparks Sr. pursued  a
career  in carpentry; after many years of hard work and manual labor, he
retired in June of 2000; since then, Edwin Sparks  Sr.  enjoys  hunting,
target shooting, and watching the Buffalo Bills; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  him  throughout have been his wife, Marie; children,
Rhea, Edwin Jr., and Robert;  grandchildren,  Joshua  and  Brendan;  and
great-grandchild,  Ryland, all of whom have felt privileged to be a part
of his fruitful life and rejoice in his many achievements; and
 
  WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication,  a  strong  desire  to  help
others,  and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in  need;
Edwin Sparks Sr. is one such firefighter; throughout 70 years of devoted
service,  this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of  duty,  those  responsibilities  which  define  the  task   of   fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Edwin Sparks  Sr.  for  70  years  of  distinguished
service to the Conesus Volunteer Fire Department; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Firefighter Edwin Sparks Sr.
