HONORING William "Whitey" Brown upon the occasion
of his 65 years of distinguished service to the
Waterville Fire Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens whose unselfish service and enduring
commitment to their communities exemplify the highest standards of civic
virtue; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William "Whitey" Brown upon the occasion of his remarkable 65 years of
dedicated service to the Waterville Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, William "Whitey" Brown, affectionately known as "Whitey" by
all who know him, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the
safety and well-being of the residents of the Village of Waterville, New
York, and surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, William Brown joined the Waterville Fire Department on
April 3, 1961, embarking on a lifetime of courageous and selfless
service that has spanned more than six decades; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his exemplary tenure, William Brown has served
in numerous leadership roles, including as deputy chief for several
years and as fire chief from 1982 to 1985, guiding the department with
integrity, experience, and a steadfast dedication to duty; and
WHEREAS, Now at 88 years of age, William Brown remains an active and
vital member of the Waterville Fire Department, continuing to answer the
call to serve; it is said that when the fire siren sounds during the
day, he is often among the first to respond, embodying the very spirit
of volunteerism and bravery; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his fire service, William Brown honorably
served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve,
further demonstrating his lifelong commitment to service; and
WHEREAS, A hardworking and respected member of his community,
William Brown spent his professional career as an auto mechanic for
various car dealerships, and upon his retirement, continued his public
service as the code enforcement officer for the Village of Waterville
for 17 years; and
WHEREAS, Central to William Brown's life has been his deep devotion
to his family; he has shared a lifetime of love and partnership with his
wife, Doris, and is the proud father of two children, Jimmy and Debbie,
as well as a cherished grandfather; and
WHEREAS, The character and accomplishments of William "Whitey" Brown
stand as a testament to the enduring strength of community, the
importance of volunteer service, and the profound impact one individual
can have over a lifetime; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William "Whitey" Brown for his 65 years of dedicated service to
the Waterville Fire Department, and to commend him for his extraordinary
contributions to his community, his State, and his Nation; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to William "Whitey" Brown.
