MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
May 8, 2026, as Provider Appreciation Day in the
State of New York
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in recognizing
those dedicated professionals whose commitment and service strengthen
the families and communities of this great State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize
Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 8, 2026, as Provider Appreciation
Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of
National Provider Appreciation Day; and
WHEREAS, Child care providers across the State of New York play an
indispensable role in nurturing the social, emotional, physical, and
cognitive development of our youngest residents, laying the foundation
for lifelong learning and success; and
WHEREAS, Child Care Aware of America and organizations nationwide
are recognizing Child Care Providers on this day, highlighting the
essential contributions they make to children, families, and local
economies; and
WHEREAS, The child care system supports children's growth,
development, and educational advancement while creating significant and
positive economic impacts for families, employers, and communities
throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, Child care providers are essential to the health,
stability, and prosperity of our communities by fostering safe and
welcoming environments, supporting working families, enabling parents
and guardians to participate in the workforce, and creating enriching
spaces where children develop critical thinking, collaboration, and
lifelong skills; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York recognizes that child care has been
and continues to be a lifeline for families, communities, and the
economy, and has demonstrated its commitment to sustaining and
strengthening the child care sector through historic investments in
child care assistance, expansion of subsidy eligibility for working
families, stabilization grants to providers, workforce development
initiatives, and ongoing efforts to increase access to affordable,
high-quality early childhood education; and
WHEREAS, The State further recognizes the vital role of
comprehensive, well-resourced Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R)
organizations across New York, which build the supply and quality of
child care and support providers through coaching, mentoring, training,
and technical assistance, thereby strengthening the entire early
childhood system; and
WHEREAS, Support for affordable, accessible, and high-quality child
care represents a sound and worthy public investment that enables
families to work, supports children's healthy development and school
readiness, promotes gender and economic equity, and sustains a strong
and growing State economy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 8, 2026, as Provider
Appreciation Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the citizens of the State of New York are hereby
urged to recognize and express their gratitude to child care providers
for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and invaluable service
to the children and families of this State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
