        MEMORIALIZING  Governor  Kathy  Hochul to proclaim
        July 1, 2026, as Postal Worker Day in the  State  of
        New York
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in participating in
days  of awareness of those vital professions that affect the quality of
life for the many New Yorkers throughout this great Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim July 1,  2026,  as  Postal
Worker  Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance
of National Postal Worker Day; and
 
  WHEREAS, Established in 1997 by a Seattle-area carrier who wanted to
honor  fellow  employees,  National  Postal  Worker  Day  is  celebrated
annually  on  July 1st; it is a day to appreciate and thank the numerous
postal workers who work consistently and diligently to  deliver  all  of
our mail and packages; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  United  States  Postal  service  has  connected,  and
continues to connect, all corners of our country, growing from  75  post
offices  serving a population of almost 4 million people in 1789 to more
than 31,000 post offices serving more than 342 million Americans  today;
the  commitment and efforts of postal workers ensures these post offices
continue to run successfully; and
 
  WHEREAS, There are approximately 490,000 postal workers  across  the
United States, nearly 40,000 of which are in New York State, who work in
all  kinds of weather including rain, sleet, blizzards, and extreme heat
and cold, yet continue to persevere throughout each week; and
 
  WHEREAS, Across the United States, postal workers walk an average of
four to eight miles carrying a full load of  letters  and  packages  and
delivering them promptly to each of our doorsteps; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Postal  workers fill an essential role in our communities,
and their commitment embodies  a  proud  tradition  of  public  service,
working in any kind of circumstance to ensure that mail and packages are
delivered promptly and safely; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring awareness
to  postal workers and the essential role they play in the everyday life
of all citizens; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
memorialize  Governor  Kathy  Hochul to proclaim July 1, 2026, as Postal
Worker Day in the State of New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
