Assembly Resolution No. 1391

        COMMEMORATING the 40th Anniversary of the Jacob K.
        Javits Convention Center
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
institutions  which  substantially  contribute to the economic vitality,
innovation, and global prominence of the State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary  of  the  Jacob  K.  Javits  Convention
Center,  one  of the nation's premier convention and exhibition centers;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Opened in 1986, the  Javits  Center  has  served  for  four
decades  as  a  nexus  of  innovation and inspiration, spanning six city
blocks on Manhattan's  West  Side  and  hosting  more  than  130  events
annually  across  business, culture, medicine, technology, and the arts;
and
 
  WHEREAS, The Javits Center was established pursuant to the New  York
Convention  Center  Operating  Corporation  under the Public Authorities
Law, in recognition that a world-class convention center would  generate
business  activity,  create  employment  opportunities,  increase public
revenue, and promote the orderly redevelopment of Manhattan's West Side;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Over the course of  its  history,  the  Javits  Center  has
become  one  of the most active convention centers in the United States,
welcoming more than one million visitors  through  its  campus  in  2025
alone  and  generating  more than one billion dollars in economic impact
for New York City; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Javits Center supports a workforce of more  than  3,000
union  tradespeople,  operations  staff, culinary teams, administrators,
and  event  professionals  whose  dedication  reflects  the   diversity,
resilience, and energy of the City of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  2021,  the  Javits  Center completed a major expansion
project designed to increase efficiency, diversify event  capacity,  and
reduce   congestion   and   emissions   through   the   addition   of  a
state-of-the-art Truck Marshalling  Building  capable  of  accommodating
nearly 200 trucks; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Javits  Center  has  emerged  as a national leader in
sustainability  and   environmental   innovation   through   initiatives
including  its  6.75-acre  green roof, which absorbs approximately seven
million gallons of stormwater annually, its installation  of  more  than
2,000  solar  panels, and its one-acre rooftop farm, which produced more
than 21,500 pounds of crops in the past year; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Center's commitment to  environmental  stewardship  has
further   transformed  the  facility  into  an  urban  wildlife  habitat
supporting more than 79 bird  species  and  multiple  rooftop  beehives,
 
demonstrating  that  economic development and sustainability can advance
hand in hand; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Through   its  JavitsCares  initiative,  the  Center  has
demonstrated an enduring commitment to community engagement by  donating
more  than  750  tons of food and materials left behind by exhibitors to
organizations serving those in need throughout New York City; and
 
  WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Javits Center has served not  only  as  a
convention  facility,  but  as  a  driver  of  tourism, commerce, labor,
sustainability, and civic pride for the people of the State of New York;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  40th  Anniversary  of  the  Jacob K. Javits Convention
Center and to recognize its enduring contributions to the  economic  and
civic life of the State of New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted  to  the  leadership  and  staff  of  the  Jacob  K.  Javits
Convention Center.
