        MEMORIALIZING  Governor  Kathy  Hochul to proclaim
        May 2026, as Older New Yorkers Month in the State of
        New York
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body  to  commend  the
older  New  Yorkers  of  this Empire State who continue to be active and
vital participants in the life of their communities; and
 
  WHEREAS, Older New Yorkers  bring  their  deep  wisdom,  experience,
enthusiasm  and  energy  to  countless  endeavors,  helping to shape and
strengthen the character of our  communities  and  the  quality  of  our
lives; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to memorialize
Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 2026, as Older New  Yorkers  Month
in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of National
Older Americans Month; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  more than four million residents of New York State 60
years of age and older represent the wide diversity of  ethnicities  and
cultures  that  make  up  this  State;  and perpetuate those distinctive
customs, traditions  and  ideals  that  enhance  the  rich  tapestry  of
community life and activity; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  wisdom and experience of older New Yorkers constantly
enrich the lives of the young people  of  our  State  through  a  strong
tradition  of  volunteerism  and  the  example  they  set  as pioneering
advocates  for  dignity  and  respect  for  all,  including   our   LGBT
communities; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Since  1963,  the  month  of  May  has  been  declared  by
presidential  proclamation  to  be  Older  Americans   Month   so   that
communities  around  the  nation might pause to celebrate and reflect on
the unique role older Americans play in our communities and our  nation;
and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  legislative  and executive branches of New York State
government have as a primary goal the improvement of the quality of life
of older New Yorkers and the assurance of their continued dignity; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize  and
celebrate  the  legacy  of  older  New  Yorkers  who,  in  spite  of the
relentless and tumultuous pace  of  change  throughout  their  lifetime,
continue  to adapt and thrive and contribute; and who now more than ever
represent a vast and willing source of knowledge and  insight  available
to our great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May  2026,  as  Older  New
Yorkers Month in the State of New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body  pause  further to urge the
residents of this great Empire State to  honor  all  of  our  older  New
 
Yorkers,  who are the cornerstone of our Nation's strength and to whom a
debt of gratitude is owed; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of  New
York.
