Assembly Resolution No. 1523

        COMMEMORATING  the  100th  Anniversary of the Fort
        Orange Stamp Club
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
pay   tribute   to  those  organizations  of  high  purpose  and  worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully preserved the history  of
this great State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Fort Orange Stamp Club; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Fort  Orange  Stamp  Club was established on April 9,
1926; one century ago, the principle founding members of the club met in
Albany, New York, to establish this historic organization; and
 
  WHEREAS, Since its founding, many notable  individuals  have  joined
the  Fort  Orange Stamp Club; President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Albany
Mayor Erastus Corning were among the distinguished members; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Fort Orange Stamp Club is dedicated  to  promoting  the
preservation  and appreciation of historic United States postage stamps;
and
 
  WHEREAS, The stamps preserved and promoted by the Fort Orange  Stamp
Club  are  works  of  art that depict our Nation's great people, events,
places, and culture; and
 
  WHEREAS, One of the first "penny postman" in  America  was  Albany's
own  William  B.  Winne,  a historic figure of the early American postal
system who is honored by the Fort Orange Stamp Club; and
 
  WHEREAS, In 1936, the Fort Orange Stamp Club became a member in good
standing of the American Philatelic Society, and the club has maintained
its membership to this day; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Fort  Orange  Stamp  Club  is  dedicated  to  advancing
philately  and  postal  history in the Capital District, New York State,
and the Nation; this noble cause is accomplished through the hard  work,
dedication, and passion of its members over the past 100 years; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that when such
notable and accomplished organizations are  brought  to  our  attention,
they  should  be  celebrated by all the citizens of New York State; now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the 100th Anniversary of the Fort Orange Stamp Club; and be
it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the president of the Fort Orange Stamp Club.
